Jedi Chef Travels: The gamble for taste pays off

Okay foodies, it’s time to get your taste buds fired up and get ready for a real gambling experience that guarantees a win.

With a line up like Butterfields Buffet, Bamboos Noodle Bar and Guy Fieri’s American Kitchen and Bar, Choctaw Casino has introduced five new venues for food and drink. Starting with the new frozen drink bar Slush’d frozen daiquiri, they offer a whole variety of flavor choices but my recommendation is the spicy pineapple margarita.

The first round of food comes from the franchised restaurant, the Velvet Taco. While the breakfast taco named the hangover is a strong favorite, I have to say that the Mexi-Cali Shrimp taco – with the sriracha aioli and blackened shrimp - had the most amazing creaminess, with just the right amount of heat on the end note.

The next stop was at The Pit, an amazing BBQ joint, serving the tastiest pulled pork and slow smoked brisket. However, if you’re eating there, I must tell you to try the bacon wrapped hog leg, you will thank me later.

Nextonourfooddiscovery, we visited the South Hot Chicken. It was an amazing reminder of how good a Nashville hot chicken strip can be, andtheBananapuddingwas a great shoutout to southern desserts.

Lastontheindulgencetrip was the little slice of Italia Kitchen, serving a lighter side variety of salads and fresh flatbreads. We tried thewildmushroomflatbread, with garlic parmesan cream, fresh mozzarella, caramelized onions, arugula and, as the namesake states, wild mushrooms. This was like eating a slice of heaven.

I give my chef’s hat off to the staff and chefs who have created a wonderful place with a large variety of flavors, and choices everyone in the family can find something they love. Even if you live on the other side of the state line like I do, The District is definitely worth the drive.
