A high-speed chase landed two local males – one later identified as Mario Ponce, an 18-year-old from Madill, and the other a juvenile – in hot water. At approximately 6:00 a.m. on May 7, the Marshall County Sheriff’s Office received a call from an Ardmore resident claiming his truck was stolen and the GPS showed it in the Oakland area.

Deputy Steven King responded to the call and quickly located the vehicle. However, the suspects sped away in the vehicle before King was able to make contact.

Even though the devious duo eluded the deputy, a Madill officer located the vehicle and re-initiated the pursuit. This turned into a high-speed chase.

The chase sped down Highway 99c toward Love County. The suspects did some quick maneuvers in an attempt to shake the officers chasing them. They entered the intersection of Powell Road and Highway 32, then turned onto Powell, and turned again quickly on Sanders Road.

That last decision may have been a swift one, but it was not a good one; Sanders Road is a dead-end road. Once the suspects reached the end of Sanders Road, they quickly bailed out of the vehicle and fled on foot in a northern direction. Approximately 45 minutes after pursuing the suspects, officers lost sight of them.

Even though the suspects fled on foot, they were not out of the woods – literally or figuratively.

Marshall County Sheriff Danny Cryer spotted both suspects walking on Highway 32 near the field where officers previously lost sight of them.

Both suspects were taken into custody and transported to the Marshall County Jail where they were then turned over to the Madill Police Department. Ponce is facing charges of Possession of a Stolen Vehicle, Eluding Police, Joy Riding, and Possession of CDS. There is no information on the second suspect because he is a juvenile.
