The Kingston Police Department presented a Kingston Elementary student a Life Saving Award for his quick action a few weeks ago. Gavin, a 10-year-old boy from Kingston, saved his mother's life on August 6. Lori Keeney, Gavin's mother, had a medical episode while swimming.
Unfortunately, she was in the middle of the pool when it happened. Gavin sprang into action. He held his mother up and out of the water until she became coherent again. Gavin's quick thinking kept his mother from going under and swallowing too much water, ultimately saving her life. Kingston Chief of Police Kasey Cox said that Gavin was 'a true hero and a positive light for this community.'
This isn't the first time that Gavin's quick thinking saved his mom. He once jumped to her rescue after realizing she was choking on her food. He tried giving her the Heimlich maneuver. When that failed, he called 911.
