Available resources for assistance

Whether someone needs help or has the desire to help others in Marshall County, both options are easily within reach. There are accessible resources for all members in the community who are struggling for the most basic essentials. There are resourcesforfamilieswithout a dollar to spare for food, over the counter mediation, hygiene products, pet supplies and much more.

Bread of Life Ministries, located at 405 E Main in Madill,isopeneveryTuesday from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. This food pantry is operated by members of the First Baptist Church and other churches in town.

The groceries are provided byRegionalFoodBank OKC. Together they distribute 100+ bags of groceries each week to families in need.

One bag is given to each householdcontainingaround 15 pounds of groceries. Continents including frozen meat when available and non-perishable items.

Registration for receiving groceries is simple and can be completed during pantry hours of operation or by contacting Phyllis Morse through Facebook at Bread of Life Ministries of Madill, Oklahoma. If anyone wants to donate funding to this cause, it can be sent to P.O. Box 105 Madill, Okla. 73446.

Food drives for non-perishable items are held by the Post Office, Kingston Middle School, Enos community and others throughout the holiday season. To donate food items during a food drive follow the FB page for updates or message Morse directly.

Heavens Manna food distribution program is hosted by Family Christian Center Church. It is located 605 N 3rd St, offering groceries to 150+ families in need.

The groceries are also provided by Regional Food Bank OKC. Grocery pickup takes place on the second Friday of each month from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. They provide 80 lbs. of groceries per household for the entire month at one time.

This is to save families from the burden of returning each week. Contents including frozen meat when available and non-perishable items. They also have a simple registration process for receiving groceries.

Community members aren’t the only ones who can receive assistance. Help can be found for the dogs and cats that are loved by struggling families in the community, as well. Kathy Germany is leading the pack at Southern OklahomaAnimalResources (SOAR),locatedat1691N1st St, Madill.

With a range of options such as aid with pet food supplies, low-cost vaccinations, $20.00 spay and neuter vouchersandevenassistance with Veterinary bills when the donation funds are available.

Germany sets up every other Thursday at City Lake in Madill from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. Families can receive food for their beloved pets, as well as nail maintenance and much more. Germany also has a shelter, SOAR, where they assist pets in being rescued and adopted.

Another source of assistance for community members is Hope For Marshall County. HFMC is a registered IRS 501(c)(3) non-profit organization. The HFMC headquarters and food pantry is located at 19123 Elizabeth Blvd in Madill.

HFMC has a large variety of ongoing and seasonal programs and projects for all to participate in. The organization is ran by by Gwen Wilson, once a single mother living in a shelter herself is all too familiar with the struggles life can present. She overcame those hardships she once faced and now dedicates her life to giving back to those who need help the most.

HFMChasbeenoperating for 15 years. Providing some of the basic and most important necessities for daily life through the program. Some products that are offered are hygiene products, laundry and dish soaps, baby supplies and over-the-counter medications. Those are especially important with the cold weather coming.

It’s hard enough to have a cold but being ill without any medication is suffering. HFMC accepts donations of all those items and products at the pantry location or Wilson can pick up donations from donors who can’t make it to the location.

Farmers and hunters can have their game professionally processed and donated to the HFMC food pantry as a blessing to those in need. Meat is a valued commodity for those who cannot afford it.

HFMC has 24-7 food boxes located throughout the county. The organization privately delivers over 40 meal boxes per month to seniors and veterans who are shut-in and have no way of getting to the pantry location on their own or anyone to help them. HFMC has programs just around the corner for teenage volunteers who would like to have a valued community service award on their transcript. They can get involved in many was including the pizza party pick a costume event that will be held on September 28 at the William Ray Memorial Park. Another event that helps HFMC fund all the things they do for the community is their annual Fill the Sleigh event. The HFMC Fill the Sleigh fundraising event will be held on November 2 at the William Ray Memorial Park.

It has more than 80 vendors, food trucks, raffles, music, motorcycle run, cupcake bake-off and so much more. This is where residents can whiteness all these teens dressed up in their character costumes for the children and the community.

There is a lot one could easily take for granted. HFMC, Bread of Life, Heavens Manna, SOAR and other organizations are making a difference and so can each member of Marshall County byvolunteeringanddonating to support access to this aid in the community.
