Wrestling club celebrates more than 50 years with wins

The Madill Take Down Club, a cornerstone of the community’s youth athletics program, is celebrating more than 50 years of dedication to wrestling, mentorship and character development. This past week, the club continued its tradition of competitive excellence by taking wrestlers to North Texas to compete in the Texan Tussle, one of the region’s premier wrestling events.

The Madill wrestlers had a strong showing, earning multiple podium finishes across divisions: In division 4, Damian Robertson took 1st; and Adrian Colescott, Bladimir Trevino and Tuff Howell all placed 2nd. Division 3 was Bladimir Trevino, 2nd; Mason Bowerman, 3rd; and Daxton Andrews and Grayson Colescott, 4th.

Division 2 was Tyson Walters, 1st; Rafael Trevino, 2nd; and Heigh Dollins, 4th. Division 1 was Bryer Votaw, 1st; and Marcellous Allen, 3rd.

Girls division 3 was Violet Mayfield, 2nd. Division 2 was Emmelina Bowerman, 1st. Division 1 had Rye Bowerman, 1st.

The 15U group was Lucas Franklin, 1st at the Glenpool Tournament and Bodie Franklin took 1s in the 10U group at the Glenpool Tournament.

Novice division 2 had Rowdy Howell, 1st; Rafael Trevino, 3rd; Benjamin Loosli and Hewitt Combs, 4th. Novice division 1 was Kohen Bell, 2nd; and Duke Hale, 3rd. The novice TOT divisionhadIrisMorgan,4th. This year, the club welcomed over 55 kids who signed up to participate, with youth joining from Madill, Kingston, Ardmore, Colgate, Dickson, Plainview, Tishomingo and Whitesboro.

Throughout its history, the Take Down Club has earned recognition across Oklahoma for its competitive success. Over the years, Madill wrestlers have brought home multiple state championships and numerous state placings, reflecting the club’s high level of training and the commitment of both athletesandcoaches.Manyof these accomplishments have become defining moments for the program, inspiring younger wrestlers to push themselves and continue the club’s winning tradition.

The club’s coaching staff is one of its greatest strengths. Today’s team includes a talented group of leaders with deep ties to the wrestling community. Among them is Madill alumnus Rio Zamora, who went on to wrestle for the University of Central Oklahoma (UCO) and has returned to help guide the next generation. He is joined by fellow coaches Luke Chapman, Rowdy Votaw, Scott Clement, Shelby Salyer, Taylor Bell, James Morgan and Banks O’Kelley—each bringing valuable experience and passion to the program.

Together, this coaching staff provides young athletes with not only top-tier wrestling instruction but also the encouragement and discipline needed to grow both on and off the mat. Their dedication has helped the club remain a respected and influential program within the region.

As the Madill Take Down Club looks to the future, its mission remains focused on supporting youth, strengthening the wrestling tradition, and continuing a legacy that has thrived for more than 50 years.
