Wrestlers claim 4 titles; Lady Cats team champs

Madill grapplers claimed four individual titles and the high school girls also capturedtheteamchampionship from the Thrill in Madill wrestling tournament last weekend.

The competition included girls’ and boys’ divisions in both the high school and junior high classifications. Madill’s junior high boys also wrapped up third in the team standings.

In the high school girl’s division, Madill tallied 73 points for the top position as they actually tied with Henryetta in the 12-team standings.

Madison Barrow led the charge for the Lady Wildcats, winning the 235-pound division as the sophomore scored a 5:02 fall win in the semifinals and a 1:28 fall victory in the finale against Trinity Young of Lone Grove.

KaydenceBourlandplaced second at 145 pounds with third place finishers coming from Kaia Henry at 135, Madelyn Ritchie at 190 and Andie Wallace at 110. Novalee Jessel also contributed a fourth place showing at 115 pounds.

On the high school boys side, the Wildcats placed fourth in the rugged 14-team field as they piled up 130 team points.

SophomoreTristonBarnes took the 113-pound individual title, ironically also meeting teammate Braxton Gimenez in the finale after he also cruised through the bracket undefeated. Barnes scored a 17-3 major decision for the crown to improve his record to 14-2 on the year.

At 120 pounds, Colton Sandefur cruised to a pair of fall wins before falling in the championship match against Gage Jessen of Comanche, to place second in the tournament.

Christian Robledo scored a 3:26 fall win against Community Christian’s Tyndale McIntosh in the third-place match at 150 pounds. Noa Seals added a third-place effort at heavyweight, needing only 38 seconds to dispatch Shad McDaniel from Empire in a fall victory. Jayden Mc-Cain also had a third-place finish at 157.

Brylon Gibson and Cristian Veras posted fourth place showings respectively at 144 and 106 pounds.

In the junior boys bracket, Brayden Valles rolled to the championship in the 119-pound division as Jackson Harper (132 pounds), Tyner Roberts (170 pounds) andAaronRecio(140pounds) all finished as runners-up.

Madill had four grapplers end up in third place, including Gabe Knight at heavyweight, Saul Martinez at 92 pounds, Xavier Quintanilla at 119 and Canyon Phillips at 80 pounds.

Dayton Gimenez claimed fifth at 126 pounds, Yadel Sanchez was sixth at 106 and Alex Romero posted a sixth place showing at 155.

The Lady Wildcat junior high notched an individual champion in Yatziri Flores at 180 pounds. Anglena Mendiola took second at 200 with Samantha Ortiz also runner-up at 96 pounds. Kaydence Bourland added a third-place effort at 145 and Kailyn Barrow ended fourth at 200.
