Madill hosted the Plainview Indians on October 8, 2021, at the Blake Smiley Stadium. The Wildcats entered the competition 4-1 against Plainview’s 3-2. The Indians were too much to handle for the Wildcats, with Madill losing their second game in a row, 42 to 7.

Head Coach Chad Spear said the competition was tough.

“We [should] give Plainview tons of credit. They are a good football team.”

The Wildcats tried to keep the pace with the Indians, but Plainview scored 14 points in the first quarter. Speer said looking back, he sees where it fell apart.

“Defensively we had some breakdowns that Plainview took full advantage of,” said Speer. “They executed their game plan, and we did not.”

Junior Ty Rushing (127 passing yards; 2 interceptions) returned from any injury to play quarterback. “Ty got released last week and played his first game in a year and first game as quarterback,” said Speer.

Madill had good runs in the first quarter by junior Yovanny Robles (21 kick return yards) and senior Kendall Robertson (22 rushing yards; 47 receiving yards). Speer said he sees Robertson being utilized in different positions.

“We feel like being able to move Kendall around in different spots will be really good for us. There will be a lot more of that moving forward,” Speer said.

Rushing threw an interception to end the quarter but the Indians took advantage of that to score a touchdown at the beginning of the second quarter, leading 21 to 0. Junior Stephen Sisco (31 receiving yards; 55 punting yards; 50 kick return yards) returned the kick for 11 yards but Rushing was unable to connect any offense plays.

The Indians did not take long to add another seven points to the board, leading 27 to 0. Sophomore Rey Gomez (3 rushing yards; 45 kick return yards) returned the kick but fumbled the ball. Plainview capitalized on the fumble for seven more points and was leading 35 to 0.

Madill was called for delay of game and intentional grounding and lost yards on the play, quickly reaching fourth down. Plainview wasted no time to score again, 42 to 0. With 1:41 left in the first half, Rushing found Sophomore Caden McHatton for a 45-yard touchdown. Senior Jimena Guevara’s extra point was good. Wildcats were finally on the board with 42 to 7.

The Indians started the third quarter with an un sportsmanlike penalty. The Wildcats defense forced a Plainview kick. Madill was then called for offensive holding. Rushing threw for another interception. “Offensively too many turnovers and penalties,” said Speer. “You can’t turn the ball over and have pre snap penalties and expect to be successful.”

The Indians made a couple good plays but called for offensively holding. Then, the Wildcats forced a fourth down. Rushing made a complete pass to senior Nick Northcutt to start the fourth quarter. Rushing was unable to make plays and Plainview won the game 42 to 7.

“With no school all week next week, will be a little different with practice in the mornings,” Speer said. “We play Pauls Valley on the road on Thursday. We need to be ready to get things back on track at Pauls Valley.”
