Wildcats lose again, prepares for Super Bowl

The Madill Wildcats (4- 3) hosted the Lone Grove Longhorns (5-2) on Friday, October 22 for the Pink Out game at the Alumni Field/ Blake Smiley Stadium. Despite all efforts, the Longhorns walked away with a seven-point win.

Junior Yovanny Robles (51 rushing yards; 10 receiving yards) kicked off to the Longhorns where senior Cornelius Smith made the tackle on the 28-yard line. Senior Kendall Robertson (166 passing yards; 92 rushing yards) stopped the Longhorns, only allowing an eight-yard gain. The next drive would be

The next drive would be a 62-yard touchdown for the Longhorns. The extra point was blocked by junior River Shaw (5 receiving yards).

With a little over a minute gone in the first quarter, the Longhorns already led 6 to 0. Sophomore Rey Gomez (87 rushing yards) made a fair catch from the Longhorns punt at the 27-yard line. Robertson played quarterback with an incomplete pass to senior Nick Northcutt (37 receiving yards). Junior Holden McGahey (50 rushing yards) got the hand off for a 1 and 10 for the Wildcats.

Robertson kept the ball to gain three yards for a 2 and 7 from the 41-yard line. Flags came out and the Wildcats are charged with a 15-yard chop block penalty pushing them back to the 26-yard line for 2 and 23.

Northcutt caught a fair catch at the 39-yard line for 3 and 9. Robertson was then tackled for a loss of seven yards. Junior Stephen Sisco (97 receiving yards; 25 punting yards; 4 punting return yards) punted to Lone Grove for a 1 and 10 from the 33- yard line. Lone Grove got no yardage on the play being stopped by Shaw.

The Longhorns completed a pass for a first down with Robles getting the stop. Lone Grove handed off for a short gain with junior Josh Schneider on the tackle. Junior Samy Trevino put pressure on the Longhorns quarterback for an incomplete pass making it 3 and 9 from the 48-yard line.

The Longhorns then tried to throw again but was pressured by senior Danny Lima. The Longhorns’ punt was blown dead on the 21-yard line. Rey took the hand off from Robertson but got no yards gained. Rey took another hand off

Rey took another hand off for a 3 and 7 on the 25-yard line in Longhorn territory. Flags were thrown and Wildcats were charged with delay of game, bringing 3 and 12 from the 20-yard line. Madill was charged with a false start five-yard penalty. Madill Head Coach Chad Speer said there were a few errors in the first quarter.

“First quarter hurt us,” Speer said. “Offensively it was penalties and defensively it was missed assignment.”

Robles was unable to make the catch from Robertson forcing Sisco to punt. Lone Grove started at the 35-yard line in Wildcat territory. Lone Grove gained three yards, but Trevino was there for the tackle. The Wildcats were offside, resulting in a five-yard penalty.

Robertson and Schneider put pressure on the Long-horns quarterback for an incomplete pass. Lone Grove got a first down at the 14-yard line but was stopped by Robles. The Longhorns gained a couple of yards with Robles and Northcutt on the stop.

Schneider allowed no yards gained for Lone Grove. The Longhorns made a complete pass on the next play to bring up fourth down with four yards to go. Touchdown Lone Grove. With 1:17 left in the quarter, the Longhorns led 13 to 0.

Freshman Leo Martinez (8 kick return yards) made the punt catch at the 37-yard line. Sophomore Caden McHatton (17 receiving yards; 17 kick return yards) was unable to make the pass thrown by Robertson. Rey took the hand off for a five-yard gain.

Robertson threw an incomplete pass to Shaw. Sisco punted and the ball was blown dead at the 31-yard line. Lone Grove gained five yards before the quarter ends.

Lone Grove started the second quarter with a pass broken up by Leo making it 3 and 5. The Longhorns went for another pas,s but Senior Ezekiel Fuentes was there to break it up. Sisco snatched the Longhorns punt and immediately tackled.

The Wildcats have a 1 and 10 from the 30-yard line. Robertson handed off to Rey for a gain of one yard. Sisco was unable to make the catch thrown by Robertson making it 3 and 3.

Robertson kept the ball to get a first down for the Wildcats with a gain of fourteen yards. Robertson threw an incomplete pass to Sisco for 2 and 10.

Sophomore Reagan Combs took the hand off from Robertson to gain two yards. Robles made a complete pass from Robertson for 4 and 4. Wildcats called time out.

The Wildcats went for it and Robertson made a complete pass to Shaw for a first down from the 38-yard line. Robertson handed off to Combs for a loss of seven yards.

Robles got a complete pass for a five-yard gain making it 3 and 9. McHatton got a four-yard gain pass from Robertson to make it 4 and 6.

The Wildcats attempted to go for it, but Robertson threw an incomplete pass. Lone Grove took advantage and took over. The Longhorns gained four yards with North cutt on the stop.

Rey has good coverage on the next play to prevent a complete pass from the Longhorns. Lone Grove got a first and ten with a complete pass.

Then, Lone Grove got another first down on a complete pass. Lone Grove handed off to the ball for two more yards gained. Senior Tito Gomez broke up the next Lone Grove pass. The Longhorns called time out.

The next drive would result in another Longhorn touchdown. With 4:09 left in the first half, Lone Grove leads 20 to 0. Wildcats took over at the 35-yard line after the kick went out of bounds. Sisco made a one-yard gain from complete pass from Robertson. Rey took the hand off and got a first down at the 26-yard line in Wildcat territory.

Rey gained two more yards from Robertson’s hand off. Robertson was able to connect with McHatton for a thirteenyard pass to give the Wildcats a first down. Rey was stopped by the Longhorn defense for no yards gained to bring 2 and 10. Robertson kept the ball and gains two yards.

Robertson threw an incomplete pass to Northcutt for a 4 and 8, then, Madill went for it. Robertson connected with Sisco for a Wildcat touchdown. Senior Jimena Guevara’s extra point was good. With 1:07 in the first half, Lone Grove 20, and Wildcats 7.

“Offensively it was really nice to get the running game going,” said Speer. “I thought the backs and quarterback ran hard and created some big plays.”

After Robles kicked, the Longhorns took over for a 1 and 10 at the 20-yard line. McGahey and Shaw put pressure on the quarterback but he’s able to connect for a complete pass gaining a couple of yards. The Longhorns quarterback gained nine yards and then completed a pass for a first down.

Smith made an interception for the Wildcats with seven seconds left in the half. Sisco caught a complete pass from Robertson. Time out called on Wildcats side. Robertson tried again to connect with Sisco but was unable to. The second quarter ended with Madill trailing 20 to 7.

Madill got the third quarter started for a first and 10 at the 8-yard line in Longhorn terrain. Robertson kept the carry to gain six yards.

Northcutt caught a complete pass for a first down at the 24-yard line. Robertson carried the ball again to gain 11 yards for another first down. Rey gained 12 more yards for another Wildcat first down.

Robertson kept the ball for a five-yard gain, but the Wildcats are called for false start and lose five yards. Robertson kept the momentum with another six yards gained.

Robertson found Sisco for a 35-yard complete pass. Robertson tried to connect with Shaw, but the Longhorn defense broke up the pass. Robertson got a 17-yard run touchdown, and Guevara’s extra point was good. Wildcats lessen the gap trailing 20 to 14 with 8:07 left in the quarter.

Robles kicked to Lone Grove for a first and 10 from the 40-yard line. Lone Grove got a first down with freshman Joel Gonzalez on the stop. The Longhorns got another six yards with Robles on the tackle. Robles made another tackle after four yards gained by the Longhorns. Lone Groves made an incomplete pass with Fuentes on the coverage. Lone Grove’s punt was blown dead at the three-yard line.

Wildcats took over for a 1 and 10. Robertson kept the ball and gained two yards. Robertson and Sisco connected for a fair catch for a first down at the 27-yard line.

McGahey got a 16-yard gain for another Wildcats first down. Rey fumbled the ball with 4:56 left in the quarter and the Longhorns take over.

“We had the chance at the end but just came up a little short,” Speer said. Lone Grove gained two

Lone Grove gained two yards before being stopped by Robles. Shaw broke up a pass and Leo broke up the next Lone Grove pass making it fourth down. Lone Grove’s punt was blown dead at the 45-yard line in Lone Grove terrain.

Robertson was on the carry for a gain of three yards. Robertson tried to connect to McHatton, but he’s unable to make the catch. McGahey gained one yard making it 4 and 6. Time out for Madill.

Sisco caught Robertson’s pass for a first down. McGahey got the hand off for 21 gained yards. McGahey on the next carry to gain three yards. Then, Rey gains four more yards. Robertson runs in a two-yard touchdown and Guevara’s extra point was good. With 28 seconds left, Wildcats led for the first time in the game, 21 to 20.

The Longhorns started the fourth quarter 1 and 10 at the 41-yard line. The Longhorns completed a pass for a first down at the 25-yard line. Madill called time out.

Lone Grove carried the ball to the nine-yard line. Robles made the stop at the six-yard line for 2 and goal. Lone Grove got a three-yard touchdown. Lone Grove called time out.

The Longhorns go for two and get it and take the lead 28 to 21 with 10:27 left in the game. McHatton got the kick from the Longhorn to return it to the 27-yard line. Robertson kept the ball to run to the 37-yard line for a first down.

Rey gained two yard to make 2 and 8 from the 39-yard line. Rey got another carry for a first down. Robertson kept the ball and gains four yards for 2 and 5.

Robertson and Northcutt connected to gain seven yards for a Wildcat first down. Rey gained seven more yards from a handoff from Robertson. Robertson kept the ball and gained 13 more yards.

Robertson and Northcutt connected once again for another seven yards gained. Rey carried the ball for a first and goal from the three-yard line. Robertson kept the ball and was immediately stopped making it 2 and goal.

McGahey got the hand off from Robertson and immediately stopped for third and goal. The Wildcats lost a yard to make 4 and 5. With 4:37, the Wildcats went for it.

Robertson’s pass was incomplete, and the Longhorns take over at the fouryard line. Longhorns gained one yard but was stopped by Northcutt. Lone Grove gained another four yards before being tackled by Northcutt.

Lima and Trevino made the next tackle to bring 4 and 1 from the 13-yard line. The Longhorns got the first down. Lone Grove gained three yards before being tackled by Schneider.

Lone Grove got a carry for 3 and 8 and then another carry for a first down. Lone Grove took a knee for the last 1:06 left in the game. Lone Grove won 28 to 21.

The Wildcats will travel to Kingston on Friday, October 29, for the Marshall County Super Bowl. “Kingston week and the kids should be fired up and looking to bring the trophy back home,” said Speer. “It should be a heck of a game.”
