The Madill Wildcats (4-2) traveled to Pauls Valley on Thursday, October 14, 2021, to play the Pauls Valley Panthers (2-4) at Thompson Field. Senior Jimena Guevara (one extra point; 35 punting yards) kicked off to the Panthers to start the game.

Pauls Valley made the catch and ran to the 38- yard line in Wildcat terrain, stopped by freshman Eli Vinson. Pauls Valley then gained 14 yards on the next drive.

The Wildcats were called for chop block penalty, the 15-yard penalty advanced the Panthers to a first and goal. Pauls Valley quarterback kept the ball but was immediately stopped by junior River Shaw for a loss, taking the Panthers to 2 and 12.

The Panthers tried a quarterback keeper again but was brought down by junior Josh Schneider for a 3 and goal from the nine-yard line. Pauls Valley completed a pass tripped up by junior Samy Trevino. The Panthers field goal kicker entered the field to took the lead with 9:01 left in the first quarter, 3 to 0

Head coach Chad Speer said he thought the defense did well.

“[I] thought we did a great job defensively executing the game plan,” Speer said.

Junior Stephen Sisco (79 punting yards; 51 receiving yards) made a fair catch off the kick from the Panthers for a first and 10 at the 18-yard line in Pauls Valley territory Junior Ty Rushing (124 passing yards) was quarterback and threw a pass intended for Sisco but was intercepted by the Panthers. With 6:54 left in the quarter, the Panthers went for it and completed a 46-yard pass for a touchdown. The extra point was good. Panthers led 10 to 0.

Sisco made the catch on the 20-yard line from the Panthers kick. Rushing handed off to Senior Kendall Robertson (14 rushing yards; 23 receiving yards) for a gain of 5 yards, making it 2 and 5. Sisco was forced to punt, and Pauls Valley took over on the 37-yard line. Robertson made a stop to a hand off by Pauls Valley for a loss of three yards. Pauls Valley was called for block in the back penalty making it second down.

Junior Yovanny Robles (9 punt yards; 3 receiving yards) had good coverage to force an incomplete pass by the Panthers for a 3 and 33. The Panthers completed a pass but was knocked out of bounds by senior Nick Northcutt (47 receiving yards). Pauls Valley punted to the Wildcats with Sisco making the catch on the 39-yard line. Rushing handed off to Shaw for a 4-yard gain. Another hand off from Rushing to Robertson for a short gain. Robertson got the first down at the 40-yard line.

Junior Holden McGahey (18 rushing yards) grabbed the hand off from Rushing but was tackled at the 28-yard line. McGahey took another hand off from Rushing and gained another five yards. Robertson took the next hand off from Rushing and gained two yards. The first quarter of play ended with the Panthers leading 10 to 0.

The second quarter started with the Rey carrying the ball for a loss of yards making a 4 and 9 at the 29-yard line. The Wildcats went for it with Rushing throwing an incomplete pass. Then it was Pauls Valley’s ball where they gained two yards before being stopped by McGahey.

Pauls Valley quarterback kept the ball to got a 3 and a foot to got the first down. The Panthers called a time out. Pauls Valley got the first down with Robles making the tackle.

Pauls Valley quarterback got another first down before Robles pushed him out of bounds. Robles and senior Tito Gomez made the next tackle, but the Panthers gained another four yards. The Panthers got nowhere being dragged by Shaw for 3 and 8. Pauls Valley threw an incomplete pass broken up by Rey. Panthers called another time out. The Panthers went for it,

The Panthers went for it, but were unable to complete the pass. Wildcats took over. Rushing handed off to Rey for a 2 and 3. “We made some big stops when we needed them,” said Speer. “We couldn’t got anything going offensively. Had a little success running the ball in the first half but didn’t handle adjustments well up front.” Rushing handed off to Rey again for a gain of one yard. Rey took the hand off from Rushing for another gain of one yard.

Wildcats took their first time out. Shaw took the next snap and was pushed through the pile for a first down. Rushing threw a complete pass to Robles for 2 and 11. Rushing tossed a pass to Robertson for a 1 and 10.

Rushing handed off to Rey for a gain of one yard from the 26-yard line. Rushing handed off to Rey again to made 3 and 5. Then, Rushing threw a complete pass to Robertson for 4 and 3. Robertson made another complete pass from Rushing and an official time out to measure.

The Panthers were called for an unsportsmanlike conduct penalty to hand a first and ten to the Wildcats. Rushing handed off to McGahey for a one-yard gain. Rushing handed off to McGahey again to gain three more yard making the Wildcats third and goal.

Rushing threw to Robles where the ball grazed his fingertips but somehow made the catch for a touchdown. Guevara’s extra point was good.

With 21 seconds left in the first half, Pauls Valley led 10 to 7. Guevara kicked to the Panthers where they run out of bounds at the 39-yard line. An incomplete pass is thrown by Pauls Valley. Time out called by Madill. Pauls Valley threw another incomplete pass with Schneider on the coverage. Pauls Valley next throw was intercepted by Northcutt, and this would end the first half of play.

Pauls Valley kicks to the Wildcats to start the second half with Sisco getting a first and ten at the 30-yard line in Panther’s territory. Rushing handed off to McGahey who was tackled for a loss for a 2 and 14.

Rushing threw an incomplete pass for 3 and 14. Rushing fired a pass to Sisco, but Sisco was unable to make the catch. Sisco punted to the Panthers who made a catch at the 46-yard line in Wildcat territory. Pauls Valley handed off but was quickly met by senior Danny Lima, Robles, and Schneider for the stop. The Panthers got a first and ten before being stopped by Trevino.

Pauls Valley’s quarterback kept the ball and ran for another first and ten then was tackled by Rey and Tito. Pauls Valley got a gain of five yards before being tackled by Robles. The Panthers got nowhere on the next play with a smash by Shaw to made 3 and 5.

Pauls Valley fumbled the ball taking it back to the 24- yard line for 4 and 13 and the Panthers went for it. Trevino took down the quarterback and the Wildcats took over the ball. Rushing handed off to Robertson for a gain of two yards making it 2 and 8 from the 30-yard line.

Rushing threw a complete pass to Sisco. Rushing fumbled the snap for loss of yards, pushing back to the 48-yard line. Rushing made another complete pass to Sisco.

Rushing threw a pass to Sisco but it was incomplete. The Wildcats strived to get the first down, but the complete pass to Northcutt is short, and Pauls Valley took over. The Panthers started on the 26-yard line for first and ten in Wildcat territory.

The Panthers handed off for three gained yards but was met by a pack of Wildcats; Robles, Trevino, Schneider, and Northcutt for the tackle. Quarterback keeper for the Panthers was stopped by Schneider and Robertson. Pauls Valley threw complete pass for a first and ten from the 39-yard line.

Pauls Valley handed off to gain four yards with Northcutt on the stop. Pauls Valley handed off again, but Trevino made the tackle. Pauls Valley quarterback keeper with Shaw tackling from behind, Panthers punted to the Wildcats aand Robles made the catch. Then, Rushing handed off to Rey for a gain of two yards from the 34-yard line. Rushing handed off to Rey who ran to the right side to gain six yards, ending the third quarter.

Rushing started the fourth quarter with a throw to Sisco who was knocked down, taking the Wildcats to a fourth down. Time out for the Wildcats. Sisco came back from the time out and punted inside the 10-yard line. Pauls Valley had a first and 10 at the nine-yard line.

Pauls Valley was wide open for the pass finally being takenn down by Northcutt. First and 10 at the 38-yard line with 11:28 in the fourth quarter.

The Panthers did not get anywhere being stopped by Robles. The Panthers took the ball up the middle for a first and ten and was tackled by Northcutt and Robles. Up the middle the Pan

The Wildcats jumped offsides for an automatic 1 and 10 for the Panthers. The Panthers ran up the middle for a gain of two yards and was stopped by Schneider.

The Pauls Valley quarterback ran up the middle for a four-yard gain but was stopped by Shaw. A 4 and 3 happens after Pauls Valley quarterback ran up the middle, being stopped by Yanez and Schneider. Panthers took a time out. The Panthers quarterback ran up the middle to get the first down. Pauls Valley ran the ball up the middle for a four-yard gain stopped by Rey and Robles. Senior Jorge Martinez made the next tackle taking the Panthers to 3 and 5. Northcutt broke up a pass thrown by Pauls Valley where the Wildcats took over the ball. Rushing was tackled with no yards gained on the play.

Rushing was then sacked, bringing 3 and 15 with 2:30 left in the game. Rushing threw an incomplete pass to Northcutt but the Panthers were called for pass interference. First and 10 from the 42-yard line for Madill.

Rushing threw a complete pass to Northcutt where he was rushed out of bounds. The pass to Sisco was broken up by the Panthers. Rushing handed off to Robertson where he was short of the first down.

Madill took a time out. Rushing handed off to Robertson where he got a 1 and 10. Rushing’s pass to Northcutt was incomplete with 51 seconds left in the game. Rushing’s pass was caught

Rushing’s pass was caught by Robertson for a 1 and 10 with 43 seconds left. Rushing’s next pass was incomplete bringing a 2 and 10. Rushing threw an under thrown pass to sophomore Caden McHatton for 3 and 10 with 14 seconds left on the clock.

Both teams took a moment to use one of their time outs. Robles was on the field to kick a field goal to tie the game but faked the kick and attempted to run. Unfortunately, he was knocked out of bounds.

Pauls Valley won the game 10 to 7. Speer said it is important for a win if they want a chance at the playoffs.

“Big game against Lone Grove,” Speer said. “Lone Grove is coming off an upset win over Plainview. If we want to stay in the playoff picture we need to play well and find a way to get a win.”

Madill will host the Lone Grove Longhorns at 7:00 p.m. on October 22, 2021, at the Blake Smiley Stadium and Alumni Field.
