The Madill Wildcats hosted the Sulphur Bulldogs for their Homecoming game at Blake Smiley Stadium. With the final score, 55 to 6, the (2-3) Wildcats could not compete with the (3-2) Sulphur Bulldogs. Sulphur scored first with only 16 seconds knocked off the clock in the first quarter. The game went downhill quickly for the Wildcats who had possession of the ball for over half the game, but only totaled 123 offensive yards. Junior Kendall Robertson, who had 62 total yards, threw an interception, allowing the Bulldogs to score again.

Madill Head Coach Chad Speer said he was disappointed.

“I was disappointed in our lack of physicality on both sides of the ball,” Speer said. “They came out and hit us in the mouth and we didn't hit back.”

Junior Brandon Stevens having 15 carries for only 12 yards, the Wildcats could not run past Sulphur.

Sulphur led 48 to 0 at the start of the third quarter, even though Speer gave them a pep talk during halftime.

“I challenged them at halftime to stay together and fight as a team,” said Speer. “Our focus needs to continue to improve. We knew it was going to be a big challenge and we were going to have to play well in all three phases.” Junior Quarterback Nick Northcutt, who had 38 total yards, would find Junior Josh Burt, who had two carries for a total of 33 yards for a Wildcat score with 1:55 left in the game.

Speer noted that Sulphur was a driving force and a difficult team.

“Sulphur is a very good football team,” Speer said. “We've got to continue to work and continue to get better. The loss is disappointing for sure. We weren’t ready to play.”

The Wildcats travel to Plainview to play the (1-4) Indians on Friday, October 9, kickoff at 7:00 p.m.

Speer said they need to shake off this loss and focus on Plainview.

“Plainview is a good football team,” Speer said. “We've got to get locked in on Monday and put together a great week of practice.”
