The weather became a major factor in some of the games Saturday at the New Years Classic. It did not however effect the Lady Redskins vs Atoka Lady Wampus Cat game. Coach Chad Rumer and his team were focused and ready to go. The result was a coast to coast 65-29 win to claim the Consolation trophy.

In the first quarter, Pressley McKnight came out firing. The super sophomore has had trouble all season putting together a complete game. Not on this night. She did have help however. McKnight and Btritt Henderson were locked in a three point shoot out and they were coming quickly. McKnight for three, Henderson for three, McKnight again for three, Henderson hits another three. And if that wasn’t enough, here comes Avri Weeks off the bench to give a couple of inside field goals. Dana Wagnon and Kassie Bailey also kicked in a field goal each. Meanwhile the “patented” Rumer full court press was in high gear. The turnovers and steals were adding up. When the dust settled, the Lady Redskins tallied a 23 point offensive explosion. They were also holding Atoka to three field goals for 8 points.

The second quarter had the Lady Redskins come back to earth. The three pointers were put to rest for awhile. Wagnon has two field goals and two free throws, Weeks had a field goal and was 2 of 4 from the stripe. Keeping pace were McKnight and Henderson with a field goal each. This totaled 14 for the quarter and sent the ladies to the dressing room with a commanding 37 to 13 lead.

The third quarter McKnight was adding two more three point goals to her tally. Weeks was getting to the line, 6 attemps, but was having difficulty, only 3 were good. Tyla Bohannon hit her first goal. The Lady Wampus cats were by now gassed. Rumer kept the bench engaged by subbing in five at a time. The score after 3 quarters, 48 to 29.

The fourth was almost a mirror image of the third. McKnight hit for two more threes. Weeks was 2 of 2 from the line.

Henderson hit another field goal for good measure. Wagnon added a free throw.

The reserves were ready to take over and cause their own havoc. Ryan Herndon hit a nice three. Raegan Davis was 2 for 2 from the line as was Ethel Stewart.

Also in the game but not scoring, Kamry Bohannon, Lanie French, Emi O’Steen, Chole Cargal, and Brittany O’Steen. Final score 65 to 29.

Final Stats: McKnight lead all scorers with 6 three point goal and a 2 for a 20 point night.

Weeks was 6 of 12 from the line with three field goals for 13 point total.

Henderson had another good outing with two threes and three field goals for 12 point.

Wagnon had three field goals and was 4 of 5 from the line for 10 points. Herndon had a three, Bailey, Bohannon T., Stewart and Davis all with 2 points.

Coach Rumer should be pleased to see the shooting improve after such a dismal night on Thursday against Latta.

In fact the Lady Redskins won the Rock Creek (Friday) and Atoka (Saturday) games by the exact same score, 65 to 29. It has been a long week for the girls. It started on Tuesday night and ended on Saturday afternoon. That is four games in five days with only Wednesday off.

Avri Weeks is continuing, for now, the strict limit on minutes. She says when asked about it, “so far no swelling”. She stretched out her knee a little more tonight with several hard sprints down length of the court. A little rust shows as seen in her struggles from the free throw line. This is not new to her as seen in previous seasons. She is very capable of running some long consecutive” free throws made” nights to up her average. So far so good for her.

Next weeks schedule has Byng Lady Pirates coming to the KMAC on Tuesday the 14th followed by a trip to Madill and a date with the Lady Wildcats on Friday night the 17th .
