Madill Cheerleaders earn Spirit Stick

The Madill Cheerleaders have something new and exciting to cheer about. The National Cheerleaders Association held a Spirit Camp July 16 through July 19. The camp was held at the University of Oklahoma, and is a learning tool for cheerleaders.

The cheer group attended the spirit camp and came home with some pretty impressive accolades. Madill Varsity received superior ribbons for team evaluations in cheer, chant and band chant.

The freshman squad received two superior ribbons and one excellent for team evaluations in cheer, chant and band chant.

The freshmen squad also received the Top Ten Band Chant award. the Herkey award, and the Most Improved.

Both squads were awarded the spirt stick all four days. A spirit stick is a high honor for a cheer squad to receive. It is awarded to a person or a cheering squad who has the highest team spirit, or the person or group who performed the best and whose hard work was evident.

Elissa Neese, a Madill junior, was awarded the All American team. Nominees for the prestigious spot were Kourtney Porter, Ella Watts, Eric Gray, Elissa Neese, Ashtyn Hawkins, Ryleigh Combs, and Moll Fulgham.

Moll Fulgham also received the Pay it Forward award. Freshman squad member Skylin Gray was an All American nominee and a recipient of the Pay It Forward award.

The Varsity and Freshman squad both received bids for nationals.

The National Cheerleaders Association website boasts on all the skills that cheerleaders will learn while attending camp. “Building Tomorrow’s Leaders. At our camps, you’ll stay up-to-date on cutting edge skills and get the very best game material and choreography.

Varsity Spirit wrote the book on safety, and our camps are focused on these high standards. It is always our highest priority to teach proper stunt progressions, explain and implement the latest safety rules, and provide uncompromising care for all camp participants.
