Madill Boys:

On Thursday December 19, in a small gymnasium in Marietta Okla., basketball teams from North Texas and Southern Oklahoma gathered for the Ronnie Moore Invitational Basketball Tournament. In a first-round elimination, the Madill Wildcats faced off against the Turner Falcons. The Wildcats came out in the first period with a strong defense and quick breakaways and began to dominate the scoreboard keeping an average six-point lead throughout the entire game. All the boys played hard and gave their best to compliment the win. Senior Asa Robertson, number 4, put five points on the board, and senior Austin Maxey, number 3 putting up eight points. The shine goes to junior Miguel Duran number 1 with his two 3-point shots finishing the game with a 14-point total. With a game win, Coach Brett Weiberg stated he was proud that his boys executed a strong zone defense.

Madill Girls:

The Ronnie Moore Invitational Basketball Tournament in Marietta Okla. was not just for the boys, as the Madill Lady Wildcats showed up Thursday afternoon December 19 ready to play. The Lady Wildcats faced off against the Turner Falcons in a first-round elimination tournament.

As the buzzer sounded starting the first period, it seemed the Lady Wildcats were in trouble with loose ball handling and fouls. The Flacons jumped up to five points in the first few minutes keeping the ball in their end of the court. However, before the period could end, junior Ximena Gomez number 21 put up a three pointer - eight points total for the game - and the girls came back to end period tied at 5-5. Warming up seemed to be all the girls needed because they went on to run the court and control the score board for a victory of 48 to 33.

Coach Shawn Runyan was very pleased to see the girls come out in the second half and play the way he knows they can. All the girls aided in the win but there was a three-way tie for lead scorer; number 11 senior Kristen Chapa, sophomore number 12 Jayden Weiberg, and junior number 33 Mariana Mendez all scored nine points each.
