Notching a victory in game of the baseball super regional, Kingston appeared on the brink of a return to the state tournament but saw host Lincoln Christian answer with two straight triumphs for the state bid.
The Redskins were 6-2 winners over the fifth seeded Bulldogs in the opener ahead of 19-6 and 7-4 defeats that ended their season with a 22-11 overall record.
In game one, Kingston cashed in a stellar pitching performance from Hayden Seeney as the senior hurler fired a complete game, scattering eight hits. He struck out seven and walked a pair.
Lincoln Christian held a 1-0 lead after a run in the fifth but the Redskins responded with a five-run eruption in the sixth to claim the lead for good.
They loaded the bases on a pair of free passes sandwiched around a Brock Rumer single. Ewan Weaver followed with a double that platedtworuns.BlaneHenry added another pair of tallies with a two-out single. Conner Waller also tossed in a RBI hit.
Jaksyn Martin singled to begin the seventh and came around to score on Weaver’s hit with two outs.
Weaver finished with two hits, including a double, and drove in three runs. Martin, Rumer, Reid Patterson, Henry and Waller posted one hit.
Game two of the series turned early on thanks to a 13-run second inning barrage by Lincoln although the Redskins fought back with three tallies in the bottom of the frame as well as three in the third stanza but it was not enough.
Kingston notched eight hits, all of which were singles. Martin had two of those hits and drove in a pair with Rumer contributing one hit and two RBI. Weaver, Slyder Hill, Henry, Mason Clark and Lander Burkhalter also tossed in a hit apiece.
In the finale, the Redskins were battling from behind throughout after spotting the hosts three runs in the first stanza and two more in the second.
Coach Darron Henson’s unit notched one in inning two as Weaver singled and scored on a Henry double and they added two others a frame later with hits from Seeney and Henry coupled by a pair of walks.
That’s as close as the Redskins could get however as their only other tally came in the sixth when Martin smackedatwo-outRBItriple.
Henry finished with two hits as Martin, Rumer, Seeney, Patterson, Weaver and Hill all notched one.
