Redskins blast Okmulgee, Top 10 Bethel next

Complete domination was the story for the Kingston Redskins as they scored 42 first quarter points on the way to a 59-0 blasting of Okmulgee on Homecoming last week.

Coach Brad Hill’s club scored twice in the opening frame on pick six interception returns and built the advantage to 52-0 at halftime playing mostly reserves over the final two and a half quarters.

Next on the slate for the Redskins is a trip to District 2A-3 co-leader Bethel on Friday to face the 5-0 Wildcats.

“It was great to finally play at home for the first time in a month,” Hill commented. “Thekidswerereally excited, and our fans packed the house. We scored on the first play and never looked back. We did a great job in all phases.”

The Redskins scored in rapid fire progression before the larger Homecoming crowd could even get settled into its seats.

Boen Proctor bolted 61 yards to paydirt on the opening play from scrimmage and Jaksyn Martin made it a 14-0 edge less than 90 seconds into the game when he intercepted an Okmulgee pass and ran it back 16 yards for the score.

On the very next series Logan Stephens followed suit as he also picked off a Bulldog pass and rumbled 27 yards for the touchdown.

Kingston continued pouring it on, cashing in short fields provided by its suffocating defense. Parks Ratzlaff raced 21 yards for one score andTyJonescarried10yards for another to cap a 34-yard march.

Martin’s second interception of the quarter set up a Jones two-yard touchdown burst to make it 42-0.

TheRedskinswerethreatening to punch in another score when Kelly Gray fell on a muffed kickoff at the Okmulgee two. They ended up settling for a Jaime Lewis 22-yard field goal two plays into the second frame.

Gray tacked on a 30-yard touchdown scamper before the end of the half to make it 52-0 and Ethan Mowles scored the only touchdown of the second half on a five-yard run with 6:21 to play in the third period.

Thirteen different Redskins hadatleastonerushing attempt in the contest as they racked up 238 yards on the ground. Hudson Everhart caught the only pass of the night for 16 yards.

Kingston now takes aim on another Top 10 showdown with Bethel, who cracked the state rankings this past week.

A talented backfield duo leads the charge for the Wildcats with junior quarterback Maddox Davis, who accounted for over 2,000 total yards a year ago, and 200-pound bruiser Luke Quinter running out of the backfield.

“It’s obviously a very important game in the district standings and going to be a challenge for us,” Hill said. “We are excited about it. They are really good offensively and are scoring almost 50 points per game. They are playing with a lot of confidence so it’s going to be a big challenge for our defense. Hopefully those big early road trips has prepared us for anything.”
