Oh football, how I’ve missed thee

Like many of you, I used the Labor Day weekend to not only catch up on chores, but also watch the 2019 college football season kick off in earnest.

Technically, there were a pair of Division I games on August 24 between Miami and Florida and Arizona and Hawaii. However, it’s different when all of the Oklahoma and Texas schools get into the mix, as they did this weekend.

The ten teams of the Big 12 Conference all won their games. And for at least one week everyone looks like a contender.

As fun as this weekend was, it will pale in comparison to the fun of Friday, September 6. That is the day that football returns to Marshall County.

I know our local high school and middle school teams have put on the pads and practice jerseys to scrimmage.

But starting tomorrow the games count. And unlike video games like Madden 20, there will be no pause button and no do-over.

This time last year, The Madill Record reported about the first games of Madill under coach Todd Vargas and Kingston under coach Tommy Bare. Both are back with teams hungry to improve on their records.

It was a joy to spend the last couple of weeks watching both teams practice and learning what they are working on.

Today, you can see this for yourself in our Football Preview, which covers the entire C Section.

This year, we will do our best to bring you the sights of Friday Night Lights.

We plan on having a reporter at every game and a photographer if possible. That will mean long drives for our team at The Madill Record, but we love football and our teams.

No matter what record Kingston and Madill finish with, we will be there to document the 2019 season.

After all, nothing beats the pure emotion of an Oklahoma high school football game. It’s different than a college or pro game with 80,000 plus spectators.

Those games are fun, but they don’t top, the energy that you feel on a Friday night.

Here’s to another great season of Marshall County football.
