Closing in on the final week of the regular season, theMadillHighSchoolsoccer teamssplitcontestswithAda on the road last week.
The Lady Wildcats struggled to get much going offensively in a 2-0 loss as they slipped to 3-6 overall, but the Wildcat boys squad came through with its best scoring effort in more than a month during a 4-2 victory to improve to 4-5 on the season.
Madill’s boys wrap up the regular slate with pivotal home matchups against Bethany and Cache with the girls slated to close out on the road Saturday with an additional contest at Mount St. Mary.
Girls
Looking to get back on track following three straight defeats, the Lady Wildcats tried to start fast but Ada snaggedtheearlymomentum by capitalizing on a couple of Madillmiscuesintheopening 15 minutes.
The Lady Wildcats had their backs to the wall after yielding a goal just 11 minutes off an Ada attack.
Madill began to rally with scoring chances but couldn’t manage to find the net on any of those despite a relatively openfieldthatnormallyplays to their strengths.
Arlette Andrade and Itzel Trevino led the charge with scoring opportunities in the Lady Cougar end but were unable to convert. Rita Camachoalsocamecloseona first-time strike from roughly 20 yards out that sailed just wide.
The Lady Wildcats continued the attack in the final half with a handful of scoring chances and even advanced a defender but to no avail as Ada punched through a final goal with one minute remaining.
McKinzy Nance made her first state in goal and was solid throughout in making nine saves.
“All in all, like most games we have lost this season, we feel like on another day we could’ve won it,” said head coach Nathan Fitch. “We are ayounggroupthatislearning and growing together. I can see a whole lot of potential; it’s just taking some time for it to click. I don’t know if it will be the next game or next season but when it does the results will start to show.”
Boys
The Wildcats turned up the offensive pressure early on and continued the assault through most of the contest while posting their second straight victory, and thus completing the season sweep of their three nearby rivals (Durant, Ardmore, Ada).
Madill jumped out to the earlyedgewithapenaltykick goal by Misael Trevino following a pair of near misses on shots from Adrian Gomez.
They continued to keep up the pressure offensively with scoring charges from Rodrigo Guevara, Alex Orta and Osvaldo Salazar but each was turned away on nice saves by the Ada keeper.
The Cougars punched through a tying shot in the 30th minute of the first half but Madill answered with back-to-back scores to take the lead for good.
Gomezbootedthroughthe go-ahead tally off a crossing assist pass from Trevino and then also accounted for the third goal as well off a Salazar assist.
Ada narrowed the gap with a goal off a corner kick and it remained 3-2 until just 15 minutes were left in the contest and Tobith Guevara found the back of the net.
Christopher Narvaez notched seven saves to help preserve the victory.
