On Tuesday, April 13, 2021, the Madill High School Girls Soccer team defeated the Cushing Lady Tigers 3 to 0. Mercedes Stumblingbear led the team with three shots and two goals. Suzette Lopez had two shots and one goal. Head Coach Jose Cortes said the girls were on fire for the game.

“The ball movement was good, we were able to change the point of attack several times, our defense was solid and our shooting accuracy improved,” Cortes said.

Jimena Guevara had two saves; Cherisee Lehr had two shots; Alejandra Orozco had two shots and two assists; Samantha Dominguez had four shots.

Senior night was Friday, April 16, when the Wildcats hosted the Bristow Pirates. The Lady Wildcats got the evening started winning 3 to 0. Mercedes Stumblingbear, Alejandra Orozco, and Ana Veras each had one shot and one goal. Cortes noted the girls’ win came from the same kind of playing that got them their recent win over the Tigers.

“Our defense was once again solid and our midfield was able to pass the ball accurately and connect some passes creating several opportunities that resulted in 3 goals,” Cortes said.

Jimena Guevara had seven saves; Cielo Gomez had two shots; Samantha Dominguez had one assist.

After the girls won, the boys kept the streak going. The Wildcats put the heat on the Pirates, winning 7 to 0. Dilan Ortiz had three shots and two goals; Rodrigo Villegas had six shots and two goals; Yovanny Robles had two shots and one goal; Javier Gomez had five shots and one goal; Mason Coles had five shots and one goal.

Cortes once again sang the soccer teams’ praises.

“We have good ball movement in the middle and our defensive effort was great,” Cortes said. “We played with high intensity and consistency all eighty minutes.”

Guillermo Saldivar had two saves; Sergio Hernandez and Kendall Robertson had one shot each; Bryan Herrera had three shots; Francisco Perez had two shots and one assist; Rey Gomez and Yoel Martinez had two shots each.

Cortes said he is thankful for everything the seniors have given.

“I am grateful for the effort and dedication that all the seniors have given to the Madill Soccer Program,” said Cortes.
