Madill traveled to Sulphur to took on the Bulldogs on October 1, 2021. Madill entered the game with a 4-0 record against the 2-2 Sulphur. Sulphur kicked off to the Wildcats with Seniors Stephen Sisco (127 receiving yards; 158 punting yards; 2 punt return attempts; 79 kick return yards; 1 touchdown) and Ezekiel Fuentes to receive.

Whistles blown, false start against the Bulldogs. They tried again. Sophomore Rey Gomez (46 rushing yards) caught the kick and made it to the 32-yard line for a first and ten. Senior Kendall Robertson (206 passing yards) was quarterback for Madill. He handed off to Junior Holden McGahey (2 rushing yards) who ran up the middle to gain two yards for a second and eight.

Robertson handed off to McGahey again for a loss of yard for third and nine. Robertson threw and was broken up by Bulldog Gage Graham. The Bulldogs took over for first and ten on the 43-yard line in Wildcat territory.

Madill played good defense as Bulldog Cole Gentry tried to ran and was swarmed by Wildcat defense. Sulphur scores on the next play with no Wildcats around to made a tackle. The extra point was good, Sulphur lead 7 to 0 with 9:57 to go in the first quarter. Bulldog Mobly kicked off where Junior Yovanny Robles (9 kick return yards) made the caught on the 31- yard line for a first and ten for Madill.

Robertson threw a complete pass to Senior Nick Northcutt (14 receiving yards; 1 touchdown) for a gain of five yards before Northcutt was pushed out of bounds. Robertson fired a pass to Sisco and was tackled immediately by Bulldog Ryan Coffey for third and three from the 39-yard line.

Robertson faked a handoff to freshman Uziel Flores and kept the ball to get a first and ten at the 42-yard line. Robertson handed off to Rey who was tackled by Bulldog Graham to made for second and seven at the 44-yard line.

Robertson threw to Sisco where he was swarmed by a pack of Bulldogs for no gain on the play, making third and six from the 45-yard line. With 6:35 left, Robertson made a 55-yard throw to Sisco for a Wildcat touchdown. Senior Jimena Guevara made the extra point. Tied ballgame with 7 a piece.

Guevara kicked to the Bulldogs where the ball was caught at the 26-yard line, with Flores on the stop. Mobly was the quarterback for Sulphur, and he gained three yards but was stopped by junior Josh Schneider.

Bulldog Gentry was pushed back by junior Adan Yanez for only three yards gained. Sulphur quarterback, Mobly, kept the ball to meet Robles for the tackle and lose a yard making it fourth down. Sulphur punted to Wildcats with 4:38 to go in first quarter. Robertson faked hand off and overthrew to Northcutt, as he dove to try and made the caught. Robertson was sacked by a pack of Bulldogs for a loss of seven yards, with a third and seventeen looming at the Wildcats.

Robertson passed to McGahey where it touched his fingertips, but McGahey was unable to made the caught. Sisco punted to Sulphur and was then pushed out of bounds by senior Jesus Diaz and sophomore Diego Navarrete.

Sulphur had a first and ten at the 45-yard line in Wildcat territory. Robles and Schneider made the stop to bring a second and five for the Bulldogs. Bulldog Mobly tried to found a ranning hole but was tackled by Northcutt and Schneider for a loss of yards. Bulldogs get short of a first down and called time out. Bulldog Mobly goes to punt but faked and threw for a first down. Sisco made the stop at the 18-yard line. Wildcat defense made a great stop with Robertson leading the tackle for the loss of yards for Sulphur. The Bulldogs broke the tackle pack and made it to the one-yard line to close out the first quarter.

With the second quarter starting, the bulldogs found the end zone and the extra point was good. Sulphur took the lead 14 to 7. Head Coach Chad Speer said the first half of the game was good but could have been better.

“We played a really good first half,” Speer said. “We had some missed opportunities that you need to take advantage of against a good football team.”

The Bulldogs kicked off to the Wildcats with the ball going out of bounds at the 35- yard line. Robertson handed off to Rey for a gain of three yards for a second and seven from the 38-yard line.

Robertson threw quick to Sisco to gain four yards. Robertson was on the quarterback keeper and brought down quickly. Sisco punted on four and three to the 29- yard line where the Bulldogs took over. The Bulldogs offense was quickly stopped by Schneider and Robles for a loss of four yards. Sulphur threw an incomplete pass for three and fourteen with 9:06 left in the first half. Bulldog Mobly threw a 74-yard pass to Brytan Gaddy for a Bulldog touchdown and extra point. Bulldogs then led 21 to 7.

Wildcats caught the kick from Sulphur at the 18-yard line with Sisco breaking to his right reaching the 35-yard line. A five-yard penalty for a sideline warning against Madill.

Robertson handed off to McGahey where he tried to spin around Sulphur defense but lost a yard for a second and eleven. Robertson threw 37 yards out to sophomore Caden McHatton (37 receiving yards; 1 touchdown) for a touchdown and Guevara’s extra point was good. Wildcats trailed 21 to 14 with 7:57 left in second quarter.

Guevara kicked off and Bulldogs made the catch on the 45-yard line and tackled by Northcutt and Navarrete. Sulphur was called for holding.

Bulldog Mobly ran to the right but was taken down by Robles. Flags thrown again, Sulphur called for a chop block; a 15-yard penalty. Sulphur was moved back to the 19-yard line for a first and twenty five.

Bulldog Mobly scrambled but was met by junior River Shaw (4 rushing yards; 28 receiving yards; 1 touchdown) for the tackle. Northcutt and Rey had good coverage when Bulldog Mobly threw downfield for an incomplete pass.

Sulphur handed off on the next play for a gain of three yards and was stopped by Schneider. Sulphur punted to Wildcats with Sisco in the backfield to receive. Robertson passed to Sisco for gain of one yard making it second and eight from the 43-yard line with 5:40 to go in the first half.

Robertson ran left and threw to Northcutt for an incomplete pass. The Wildcats are called for a holding; five-yard penalty making a second and eighteen from the 33-yard line. Robertson passed to Sisco at the 50-yard line, one yard short of the first down for third and one.

Shaw took the snap and pushed his way through the Bulldog defense to gain a first and ten. Robertson threw an incomplete pass for Sisco with Bulldog Mobly breaking up the pass. Robertson handed off to

Rey where he was tripped up at the eight-yard line but broke through several Bulldogs for a first and goal. Robertson passed to Northcutt for a Wildcat touchdown and Guevara’s extra point was good. With 3:24 to go, tied ballgame.

Guevara kicked to Bulldogs and had a first and ten at the 39-yard line with the tackle from Flores. Bulldog Mobly passed sideways for a second and nine but was stopped by Flores. Bulldog Mobly tried to ran but was brought down quickly by a pack of Wildcat defense.

Bulldogs did a quarterback switch and brought in Reese Ratchford where he was spun down by junior Samy Trevino and Robles. Bulldog Ratchford tried to ran but was stopped by Northcutt and senior Tito Gomez for a second and eight with 1:44 left.

Bulldog Ratchford threw incomplete pass that was broke up by Robles for third and eight. Wildcat defense forced a fourth down for Sulphur. Bulldogs then called time out, then the Wildcats turned around and call time out. The Bulldogs went for it on fourth down and threw an incomplete pass, and the Wildcats took over the ball.

Robertson found Northcutt at the 32-yard line for second and eight. Robertson then fired right to Sisco for an incomplete pass for third and eight. Wildcats were called for a five-yard false start penalty, making it third and thirteen.

Robertson threw right to Sisco at the 30-yard line. Sulphur called another time out with 37 seconds to go in the first half. Sisco punted with ball covered up on the 38-yard line.

The Bulldogs were called for roughing the kicker and automatically gave the ball back to the Wildcats. Robertson threw an incomplete pass with flags flying, illegal man on field against Wildcats making first and fifteen from the 26-yard line. Robertson threw another incomplete pass for second down.

Robertson connected with Sisco at the 48-yard line calling a time out for the Wildcats. Robertson tossed an incomplete throw on the far side to Sisco. Madill called time out. Sisco punted with the ball rolling to the 15-yard line. That ended first half of play with a tied game, 21 to 21.

Madill kicked off by Robles where Sulphur took over for a first and ten at the 25-yard line. Bulldog Mobly handed off, but Schneider was there to make the stop allowing no gain for Bulldogs. Sulphur got a two-yard gain with Robles and Northcutt on the stop.

Sulphur handed off for a five-yard gain but quickly stopped by senior Jorge Martinez and Shaw. Sulphur ran to the right for a first down with Robles finally able to make the stop. The Bulldogs ran to the left and were called for holding with a first and twenty from the 26-yard line.

Sulphur ran up the middle where the offense pushed their way to second and eight from the 40-yard line and was stopped by junior Bryce Coles and Schneider. Bulldog Mobly got a good ran to the 35-yard line in Wildcat terrain. Sulphur ran up the middle to gain three yards, second and seven from the 32-yard line. Sulphur ran left for two yards and stopped by Trevino. Bulldogs ran up the middle again and tackled by Shaw and Tito. Bulldog ran up the middle again and stopped by Martinez and Tito. Sulphur tried it again, ran up the middle for four-yard gain stopped by Robles.

Bulldog Mobly ran for a first down on the one and goal with 5:12 to go in the third quarter. Touchdown Bulldogs with two-point conversion no good. Sulphur led 27 to 21. With 4:53 to go, Sulphur kicked to the Wildcats when Sisco spun around with the catch for a first and ten at the 33-yard line. Robertson handed off to McGahey for the carry with no yards gained.

Robertson threw to Sisco for a complete pass on the 49- yard line, a gain of 16 yards. Robertson kept the ball and dropped it in the backfield for a loss of three yards. Robertson threw an incomplete pass to Northcutt. Robertson got to the 49-yard line for a fourth and eight. Sisco punted with flags drawn for chop blocking against the Wildcats.

Sisco punted again from 15 yards deeper, and ball was blown dead at the 35-yard line. The Bulldogs in Wildcat territory was stopped by Robles to bring second and third. Tito and freshman Eli Vinson made the next tackle. Wildcats called a time out with 1:02 left in the quarter.

Sulphur fumbled the ball and recovered by Trevino at the 39-yard line. Robertson threw an incomplete pass to Sisco. Madill took another time out. Wildcats got a fiveyard penalty for false start. Robertson threw a complete pass to Shaw. Robertson fumbled the snap but was able to recover. Wildcats called for false start again taking a five-yard penalty. Robertson completed a pass to Sisco for first and ten to end the third quarter.

“Disappointed that we couldn’t finish in the second half,” said Speer. “We knew they were going to be big and physical up front. We couldn’t match their physicality in the second half.”

Madill starts the fourth quarter in Sulphur territory with Robertson handing off to Flores for a loss of one yard. Robertson threw to Sisco, but the ball is in and out of his handed for incomplete pass for third and eleven.

Robertson threw to McHatton where he stretched for an incomplete catch. The Wildcats went for it on fourth and eleven. Robertson tried to find McHatton again, but the Bulldogs have too much coverage and cause an incomplete pass. Sulphur took over on the 48-yard line for a first and ten with a stop from Northcutt.

The Bulldogs ran to the left for a first down and ws tackled by Trevino and Vinson for another first and ten on the 37-yard line. Sulphur’s quarterback scrambled and was brought down for a loss of yardage by Trevino. Bulldog Mobly ran on the next play but was tackled by Robles, Tito, and Rey.

Bulldogs then called a time out. Bulldog Mobly passed for a touchdown with 8:03 left in the game and the two-point conversion is good. Bulldogs lead increased to 35 to 21.

Bulldogs kicked off and sophomore Blayze Adams was there to made the catch on the 37-yard line for first and ten. Robertson tossed to Sisco for an incomplete toss for second and ten. Robertson threw too strong and too high for Sisco to make the catch. Robertson fired left to Northcutt for an incomplete pass forcing Sisco to punt.

Sulphur took off with a hand off for a gain of four yards being tackled by Robles and Tito for second and six. Shaw got the hand off tackle for no yards gained. Sulphur handed off and broke through several tackles for a good run, but Sulphur was called for holding and personal foul against the Wildcats. That took Sulphur to first and four from the 33-yard line. Sulphur ran to the left where Robles made the tackle. The Bulldogs attempted to run right but was tackled by Trevino. Bulldogs ran up the middle and tackled at the 50- yard line by Tito and Shaw.

Wildcats were called for offsides taking the Bulldogs to third and inches. Sulphur ran up the middle for a first and ten and was tackled by Robles. Sulphur took it up the middles again stopped by senior Cornelius Smith.

Sulphur quarterback kept the ball for a first and ten, but was stopped by Robles on the 30-yard line. Sulphur broke tackles to gain another first and ten on the 20-yard line. Sulphur got nowhere on the next play and swarmed by Northcutt and Shaw for second and ten.

The Bulldogs threw left and was stopped by Tito. Another time out called by Sulphur. The Bulldogs gained a few yards with McGahey on the stop. Sulphur got a touchdown on the next play with the extra point good. Sulphur increased the lead 42 to 21.

The Bulldogs kicked to the Wildcats and Sisco ran to the 48-yard line. Robertson threw a complete pass to Northcutt where Sulphur was called for a fifteen-yard personal foul penalty. Sisco got the complete pass thrown by Robertson. Wildcats turn to call for a timeout.

Robertson threw to the right side and found Shaw for the touchdown and Guevara’s extra point was good. Sulphur wins 42 to 27.

Madill hosts the Plainview Indians on Friday, October 8, at 7:00 p.m. at Blake Smiley Stadium/Alumni Field.

“Plainview is going to be another tough challenge for us. They are playing really well and are at the top of the district,” Speer said. “They have some good players. The good thing was that we have some good players too. I told the kids Friday night that everything we want to accomplish was still in our control. We need to learn from Friday night and have a good week of practice. If we do that, we will be in another dogfight, which that’s what our district is.”
