The Madill Boys’ Golf team did not advance to state during the regional meet on May 3, 2021. Head Coach Adam Potter said it was a learning experience.

“We had a tough regional,” Potter said. “The scores for qualifying for state were based on team scores and individual scores of 36 holes. We played the best two 18 rounds as a team that we have all year but came up short.”

Brylan James led the team in both rounds, shooting a 92 then 89. Greg Padgett had a 94 round one, 90 second round. Ian Zang had 98 first round, 93 for second round. Reagan Combs with a 109 first round, and 105 second round. Joshua Johnson shot a 123 in the first round, and 102 in the second round. Potter said even though

Potter said even though the team scored the best they have all season, it was not enough for them to advance.

“Both rounds we scored under 400 as a team and we haven’t done that all year,” Potter said. “To qualify as an individual in our region, we would have had to have a player shooting in the 140-150 range for the 36 holes (avg. of 75 per 18).”

“While we improved tremendously from the beginning of the year, we fell short of state,” Potter continued. “With a young team, we have plenty returning next year. I look forward to the coming seasons with this group.”

Potter took to Facebook to show how proud he was of the boys.

“Very proud of these young men and their improvement as a team this year,” he posted. “We finally broke the 400 mark as a team on both rounds of 18 at regionals with a 393 and a 374. Those are our best rounds of the year.”

“While we fell short of state, I’m proud of our accomplishments, improvements, and attitudes on the course,” he continued. “We are a young team and will be graduating one senior who will be missed.”

“Thank you to our families, friends, and community for your support throughout the season. I’m looking forward to our future seasons and what we will accomplish.”
