Madill girls beat Marietta girls by score of 51-40

Madill came into the game with a 2-0 record.

The Marietta Lady Indians controlled the first quarter by a 17-9 margin.

On the floor to start the second for madill are Gomez, Weiberg, Lambertsen, Chapa and- Stumblingbear.

For Marietta ist 4, 1, 11, 15, and 13.

Stumblingbear score first to open the quarter by sinking one of two free throws.

Sanchez got a basket for Marietta to put them up by nine, 19-10.

Madill went right back down and scored through Weiberg to cut the deficit to 19-12.

However, Marietta went back inside to Sanchez who scored again.

T. Doublass snagged a steal, drove the length of the floor and was fouled on the shot. T. Douhglass hit both shots to put Marietta up 23-12.

Lambertsen drove inside on the next play and was fouled. She converted one of two shots to cut the deifict to 23-13. Weiberg converted a pair of free throws to make it 23-15.

The sides would trade free throws to bring the score to 27-16.

Then, Sanchez made a contested shot which was followed by a Weiberg three-pointer. Doulgass made a free throw to

Mendez made a short shot off the glass to make the halftime score Marietta 30, Madill 21.

Second half of action

Douglass hit a pair of free throws to open the scoring in the third quarter.

On the other end, Lambertsen made a shot from inside to put the score at 32-23.

A few possessions later, Haven Matthews made a free throw to further pad Marietta’s lead.

K Douglass and Matthews scored on consecutive possessions to push the Lady Indian lead to 37-23.

Chapa scored on a put back to cut the Marietta lead to 12 points.

Weiberg added her own put back moments later to make it 37-27. Marietta head coach Josh Drinning responded by taking a 30-second timeout.

Both defenses tightened until Madill’s Destiny Adams scored with 24 seconds to go in the third quarter. Her bucket brought the score to 37-29.

The Lady Wildcats got on the board first after a Stumbling bear steal led to a Lambertsen basket.

Then, Pilot Point’s Tori Douglass and Chapa traded baskets to make it 39-33. Sanchez came back with a basket to restore Marietta’s eight-point advantage.

Madil’s Ashlyn Arnold came up with the ball below the basket and put up a shot before taking a foul. Arnold converted the second her free throws to cut the Marietta lead to 41-34.

However, Arnold fouled Matthews on the next play. Matthews made both free throws to increase Marietta’’s lead.

Lambertsen got a bucket of her own to make it 43-36.

K. Douglass scored and was fouled by Mendez. Douglass completed the three-point play to give Marietta a 46-36 advantage.

However, the Lady Wildcats immediately fought back as Weiberg drained a dagger three.

Madill took a full timeout with 4:27 to go so their head coach Shawn Runyan prepared his team for the final moments of the quarter.

Then, Chapa blocked two straight shots on the next Marietta possession. The Madill defense held straight to force a turnover.

Kaylie Douglass fouled out of the game with 3:21 after receiving her fifth foul. Unfortunately for the Lady Wildcats, they couldn’t convert the resulting free throws.

At this point both teams were in the bonus.

A foul by Marietta’s Mady Hicks sent Arnold to the line where she made one shot to make it 46-41.

Regan Denham was fouled off the ball by Chapa and made one of two shots to put the score at 47-41.

Sandwich around these plays were a pair of closely missed threes by Weiberg.

Runyan switched the defense to a full court press which paid off as Amina intercepted a pass.

The game continued at a frantic pace as the second ticked down.

Lambertsen picked up her fifth and final foul with 37.1 seconds to go.

The Tori Douglass to the line where she missed the first shot. Then, Runyan called a full timeout. Douglass made the second shot to give Marietta a 50-41 lead, which is where the game would end.
