Madill traveled to Marietta to play the Indians on Monday, February 7. The Lady Wildcats won the game 58 to 53. Head coach Shawn Runyan said it was a concerted effort.

“It took the whole team,” Runyan said. “We played good. Free throws late were crucial, and we knocked them down, it was a good win for us.”

The Lady Wildcats led at halftime 32 to 24. Senior Jayden Weiberg led the Lady Wildcats with 23 total points; sophomore Allyson Knight had 12 total points; and senior Braylee Schneider had 10 total points.

The Wildcats played Marietta next and won their game 53 to 33. Head coach Brett Weiberg said it was a good win.

“It is always good to get a conference road win,” Weiberg said. “Marietta is an improved team, and it was a good win for us, especially coming off the tough loss of Byng.”

“I thought Nick Northcutt played good,” Weiberg continued. “Ezekiel and Kendall played really hard and were both effective. We really need to focus and remember the things that got us here.”

Senior Ezekiel Fuentes had 12 total points; senior Nick Northcutt had 11 total points; and junior RJ Morris, senior Kendall Robertson, and senior Javier Gomez each had seven total points.

The Lone Grove Longhorns came to town on Tuesday, February 8. The Lady Wildcats won the game 66 to 46. Runyan said the ladies came out of the gate as winners.

“We played good and played good from the start,” said Runyan.

Madill led 34 to 25 at halftime. Jayden Weiberg scored a total of 37 points and was the lead scorer for Madill. Schneider had 13 total points and Knight had eight total points.

“Doesn’t hurt when Jayden had 37 points,” said Runyan.

The Wildcats followed up the ladies’ win and had no problem handling the Longhorns, winning 43 to 29. Madill led at halftime 27 to 14. Weiberg said the Longhorns are a hard team to beat.

“Lone Grove is a very good team. They play really hard and are well coached,” said Weiberg. “I thought our kids played an excellent first half. We came out ready to play, we played with purpose, and we played hard. We move the ball well in the first half and knocked down some threes. We did not finish the last minute of the first half very well but other than that it was in a well-played half. Like other good teams do, Long Grove made a run in the second half and capitalized off some of our mistakes. But I was very proud of the boys and how they bounced back and finished the game.” Northcutt led the team in points scored with 14; Morris had 11 total points and Robertson had seven total points.

“Nick Northcutt had another double, RJ Morris played an excellent floor game and Kendall Robertson played very well,” said Weiberg. “Overall, I was really pleased with our effort and our play.”

On Friday, February 11, Madill hosted the Plainview Indians. The Lady Wildcats lost the game 58 to 45. The Lady Indians led at halftime, 36 to 18. Runyan said it was a slow playing game.

“We started real slow spotting them 18 points by halftime. But I was super proud of the girls in the third and fourth quarters,” said Runyan. “They showed some grit and toughness we had been lacking. I know it didn’t go our way, but I couldn’t be prouder of the fight they had for the comeback against a really good-ranked team.”

Jayden Weiberg led the scoring with 20 total points. Lambertsen had 12 total points. Schneider had nine total points.

It was the boys’ turn to play, and the Wildcats won 50 to 36 against the Indians. Madill led at halftime 21 to 19. Weiberg said the Indians were a formidable opponent.

“I thought Plainview came out and played hard and played really well, especially in the first half,” said Weiberg. “They were well prepared, and the Plainview kids were playing hard, and they were well coached.”

Fuentes led in scoring with 22 total points. Robertson scored 12 total points. Morris had six total points. Weiberg said the win was because the boys executed some key plays.

“We shot the ball really well in the second half and were able to get some key stops on the defensive end,” Weiberg stated. “I thought Kendall Robertson played really well and I thought senior Hayden Harper did a very good job on the defensive side. It’s always good to win conference games, especially on your home floor. Now we have to get ready for a big week.”

Madill will host the Pauls Valley Panthers in the district playoffs on Friday, February 18 at 6:30 p.m.
