On Tuesday, February 15, 2022, Madill hosted the Kingston Redskins. The Lady Wildcats took to the court first losing the game 50 to 69. Head coach Shawn Runyan said there were multiple things that led to the loss.

“We missed too many layups and didn’t block shots,” said Runyan. “We gave up too many offensive rebounds. We can’t do that against good teams like Kingston.”

The Lady Wildcats trailed 31 to 35 at half time. Senior Jayden Weiberg at 26 total points; sophomore Hannah Elkins had eight total points; and senior Braylee Schneider and sophomore Allyson Knight had five total points each.

Even though the Wildcats took the court and only trailed the Redskins by one at halftime, Kingston ultimately won the game 44 to 40. Head Coach Brett Weiberg said the game was slow to score.

“The game was such a low scoring game in the first half. Neither team could get anything going offensively,” Weiberg said. “We let the game get away from us in the third quarter and therefore we had to go into our trap and scramble game.”

Senior Ezekiel Fuentes led the Wildcats with 12 total points; senior Nick Northcutt had seven total points; and junior RJ Morris had nine total points.

“Our kids really competed hard to the very end and the last three or four minutes of the game because very competitive. In these type of games, every little thing matters and Kingston just did slightly better in the little things,” said Weiberg. “Our crowd was awesome and I’m so thankful for our incredible student section.” This was the last regular season basketball game to be played in the Madill Wildcat Field house (1976-2022).

On Friday, February 18, Madill hosted the Pauls Valley Panthers to play for the District Playoff Championship. The Lady Wildcats won the game 59 to 57 in the last few seconds. Runyan said the girls played hard and well.

“Girls played really hard,” Runyan said. “We got some timely buckets, and I am proud of all of them.” This is the first District Playoff Championship for Madill girls’ basketball since 2010. Weiberg had 29 total points; Schneider had nine total points; senior Abbie Lambertsen and sophomore Haylee Elkins had five total points each.

The Wildcats took the court next and was not able to keep up with the Panthers, losing the game 36 to 52. Coach Weiberg said even though they lost, the team played hard.

“Pauls Valley played a very good game,” Weiberg said. “They played hard, rebounded the ball, made open shots and defended. We definitely did not play very good.” Fuentes had 20 total

Fuentes had 20 total points; senior Javier Gomez had six total points; senior Kendall Robertson had five total points. “When it is the post season,

“When it is the post season, every possession matters, every shot matters, every box out matters, every turnover matters and we just did not get it done tonight,” said Weiberg. “Competitors learn from missed opportunities and if we stay in the right frame of mind we can learn and move on.”
