The Madill Lady Wildcats were thrown straight into the heat of battle when they opened their season on August 12. The fast-pitch softball team drove to Hugo for a pair of games against the host and Soper. Madill beat Hugo 6 to 1. Head coach Randy Rushing said his team’s top hitters were Emile Johnson and Mia Beason. “Our defense played well,” he said. McKenzie Reed was the winning pitcher for the Lady Wildcats. “She had real good control the whole game,” Rushing said. However, Madill then lost a heartbreaker to Soper in extra innings by the score of 6 to 5. Maryn Mancini was the losing pitcher for Madil, Rushing said. “She pitched well most of the game,” he said. “Walked a couple of lead off batters in the late innings that ended up scoring.” Rusing said the team had a few errors that hurt them. “Offensively we had numerous opportunities to score but didn’t take advantage of them.”

Late games

The Lady Wildcats dropped a pair of games at Lone Grove on August 13. In the first game, Lone Grove won by a score of 12 to 0. Madill scored one run in the second game but was defeated 11 to 1. The Madill softball team played Wednesday in the Calera tournament. Scores and quotes from tournament games was not available at press time.
