The schedule was limited last week and loaded with road landmines for the KingstonLadyRedskinswith a pair of losses to Class 3A fast pitch state tournament contenders.
In the opener, the Lady Redskins saw a late lead slip away in a 4-3 loss to Silo that settled the Silo Tournament championshipandmovedthe host Rebels into a tie for the District 3A-8 lead. Kingston found the going even tougher at powerhouse Washington, falling by a 8-0 count to finish off the week’s action.
The Lady Redskins will be back on the road Thursday and Friday for the Healdton Festival and then wrap up league play at home Tuesday with Valliant.
Facing Silo, Kingston posted an 11-9 edge in hits for the game but missed opportunities galore while leaving 11 bases runners stranded, most of which were in scoring position Coach Aaron Minor’s club took the early lead as Ava Bain singled and scored on a two-out hit from Destry Davis in the second stanza. They added another tally in the third inning with Bain driving home Kanna Stroud, who had begun the frame with a single> It was knotted at 2-2 in the sixth when Kate Ratzlaff doubledandMadiHammond singled in front of a Stroud RBI groundout.
Silo cashed in a pair of two-out, run-scoring hits in its half of the sixth to tie and take the lead for good. Gracie Bridgman was saddled with the pitching loss as she scattered nine hits over six solid innings.
Ratzlaff had a huge effort offensively with four hits, including the double, and scoredarun.StroudandBain posted two hits apiece while Hammond,DavisandDextry Bowerman wrapped up with one each.
They never could get anything going against Washington, despite striking out only twice, as they got no hit. Keeton Hatley was the only Lady Redskin to reach base as she was hit by a pitch.
