Lady Cats snag 4A regional consolation crown

The Madill girls bounced back from a regional opening loss with two straight elimination game victories and moved on to this week’s Class 4A Area Tournament in Ada.

Coach Carlos Humphrey’s girls unit will attempt to stay alive at 1 p.m. Thursday facing Lone Grove at East Central University.

Madill’s boys got their shooting rolling but bowed out of the playoffs with a 6657 loss to Tecumseh.

Girls A rough start put the Lady Wildcats behind the eight ball in their 62-39 defeat to fourth-ranked McLoud in the first game of the regional.

Madill trailed 20-6 after one stanza but rallied to cut the margin to 31-22 at intermission but could not get any closer.

Lamiyah Brown was the offensive leader for a balanced scoring attack with 10 points. Arlette Andrade added eight, Chloe Miller had seven, Jade Soto and Karma Williams tossed in five apiece with Allyson Coles rounding things out with four points.

The comeback trail began with Madill staving off elimination, bolting to a 14-3 first quarter advantage on the way to a 51-40 win against Blanchard.

Madill was up 26-17 at halftime and 38-23 heading to the fourth quarter.

Andrade and Miller each caught fire early and tied for team-high scoring honors with 14 apiece for the game. Brown posted 12, Soto had eight and Williams notched one.

Another strong opening frame helped propel the Lady Wildcats to a 42-39 decision over Bridge Creek in the regional consolation final as they managed to hold off a late rally.

Humphrey’s squad rode seven first quarter points from Andrade to a 14-5 cushion through one stanza and built the margin to 22-12 at halftime and 32-21 through three frames. Bridge Creek madeitinterestingbeforeAndrade and Allyson Coles each canned a pair of free throws to help seal the triumph.

Brown sank four three pointers on the way to a game-high 16 points while Andrade also tallied double figures with 11. Miller scored eight, Coles had four and Williams tacked on three.

Boys

A first half shootout in which the Wildcats led turned south after intermission as Madill went cold in the elimination battle.

The Wildcats outgunned the Savages 17-15 through one frame and were still ahead 35-34 at the break following an exciting first half. They managed just 11 points, however, in each of the final two stanzas, which allowed Tecumseh to pull in front for good.

Jagger Rogers connected for four treys to fuel the attack with 19 points. Brayden Jowers and Ryan Anderson pumped in 10 points apiece, CashCooperaddedninewith three treys, Sammy Duran chipped in six and Christian Smith tallied three.
