Madill’s girls wrestling team placed fourth with the boys claiming sixth in the teamstandingsattheAnnual Thrill in Madill Tournament over the weekend.
The Wildcats had one individual champion with Brylon Gibson along with a host of placers in both the girls and boys divisions.
On the girls’ side, Anglena Mendiola and Madelyn Ritchie captured runner-up honors at their respective weight divisions while Hannah Pruitt, Kaydence Bourland andMekaylaWestbrook each finished third as well as fourth place efforts from Lexi Willis at 105 pounds, Samantha Ortiz at 110, Janelle Mancillasat125andMadison Barrow at 170.
Ritchie was the biggest winner of the weekend for the Lady Wildcats, notching four triumphs before a third period fall loss in the title tilt at 190 pounds. She dropped Chellye Barnett of Coalgate in a 3:32 fall and Lone Grove’s GeorgiaChambersalsobyfall in 1:24. Ritchie followed with a 4-1 decision against Leilani Shawnee from Little Axe as well as stopping Lexington’s Valeria Chavez in a 3:15 fall.
Mendiola rolled through a trio of fall victories to reach the finals at 235 pounds. She needed just 33 seconds for the pin of Mya Padilla of Comanche, stopped Altus’ Anahi Uribes in 2:18 and Kora Parker from Lexington at 1:32 in the semifinals.
Westbrook scored a pair of wins in the 170-pound categorywithBourlanddoing likewiseat140pounds.Pruitt took one of her three matches at 115 but still managed a third place finish.
For the boys, Gibson blitzed the competition at 175 pounds with four pin fall victories. He powered past Alex Klue of Lone Grove in just 71 seconds ahead of back to back second period pins, taking down Ardmore’s Nathaniel Guzman in 3:44 as well as Keegan Crouch of Dickson at 2:51. In the finals, Gibson went to the third period before pinning Caddo’s Noah Dry at the 5:37 mark.
AroddyCamachoreeledoff four straight impressive triumphs at 144 pounds ahead of a narrow 5-3 decision loss in the finale to Lone Grove’s Korbin Ingram. He had no trouble in first period fall wins over George Anjain of Broken Bow (31 seconds) and Community Christian’s Mason Milne (48 seconds) before outdueling Josh Lewis from Pauls Valley in a 14-7 decision. Camacho then toppled Bray Stephens of Dickson in the semifinals.
Bryce Culp added a third at 150 pounds, winning three of his five matches. He turned back Xavier Hurtado from Pauls Valley in a 4:57 fall and Landon Early of Lone Grove at 1:49 to begin the tournament. He rebounded from two losses to take down Ardmore’s Axton Reynolds in 2:59 of the third place match.
In the 138-pound division, Jackson Harper rolled to the third place medal with three wins in four matches. He opened with a 5:01 fall over Karson Wilson from Little Axe, downed Taylynn Farris of Pauls Valley in a 1:59 fall ahead of wrapping up with a 7-3 decision against Broken Bow’s Landon Threatt.
Xavier Quintanilla contributed a fourth place showing at 126 pounds after notching a 2-3 record. He scored a 9-5 decision over Garret Henry from Community Christian and a 5:51 fall over Ardmore’s Fernando Galarza.
In junior high action, the Lady Wildcats claimed the tournament title out of 14 teamsspurredbyfiverunnerup finishes. Madill’s junior high boys finished third.
Brissa Reyes, Hannah Pruitt, Valaria Barrientos, Maylin Narvaez and Areli Trevino each took second place with Lexi Willis grabbing third and Samantha Ortiz fourth.
The Wildcats had an individual champ in Adrian Colescott as Dago Gonzalez and Rodrigo Cruces checked in second place. Teo Barrientos and Daeton Brown ended third with Blaze Greenwood and Layne Dorer both taking fourth.
