Lady Bearcats prove no match for Lady Wildcats

In their match on Dec. 7, the first quarter ended with the Pilot Point Lady Bearcats leading the Madill Lady Wildcats 16-12.

Pilot Point’s DeBria Bailey started the second with a two point to push the guest’s lead to 18-16.

Lambertsen faked and drove inside for a two.

Pilot Point’s True got the second Pilot Point basket in the second.

A shooting foul sent Lambertsen to the line where she made the first of two shots to cut the Lady Bearcat lead to 20-17.

The Lady Wildcat defense held the line for a pair of possessions before True scored to give her squad a 22-17 lead.

Madill responded as Chapa score a bucket while being foulded by Boyd. She made the free throw to cut the Lady Bearcat lead to 22-20.

The Lady Wildcats got the ball to Chapa again who drew another foul. Chapa sunk both shots to tie the game at 22-22.

However, Pilot Point respondeded as True hit a deep two to retake the leat at 24-22.

Madill took another trip to the line on their next possession as Jordan fouled Weiberg who made both of her shots to knot the score at 24-24.

True continued to power Pilot Point with another bucket. Then, Harley Jones made shot to put the score to 28-24. Adams answered with a three to cut make it 28-27.

The Madill defense made a stop before taking the lead through a Weiberg three just before halftime. It was Madill 30, Pilot Point 28 as the teams went into the their respective locker rooms.

Neither team scored during the first two minutes of the third quarter.

Unfortunately for the Wildcat faithful, it was Pilot Point that broke the drought when True score from the low post to tie the game at 30-30. Moments later Bailey would also score form the post to give Pilot Point a narrow 32-30 lead.

But Chapa answered on the play with a score her own tie the game 32-32. On Madill’s next possession the Lady Wildcats restored their lead through a Weiberg free throw.

After the timeout Chapa scored to put Madill up 35-32. True answered with a quick two of her own.

On the next Madill possession it was Chapa again with a three-point play. This gave the Lady Wildcats a 38-34 lead.

Weiberg grabbed a board and pushed the pace with a long pass to 14 who found Chapa down low. Chapa was fouled by drained both shots to increase the Madill lead to six points; 40-34.

Mendez got another steal to give Madill the ball again. After a foul during the Madill possession, Pilot Point took a timeout. The Lady Wildcats scored after the timeout as Weiberg made an open shot from close range to increase the lead to 42-34.

After a Pilot Point basket, it was Ashlyn Arnold’s turn to score for down low. This shot made the score 44-36, which is where the score would stay heading into the fourth quarter.

The Lady Bearcats had the first possession of the fourth quarter and scored through a pair of free throws by Kylie Malone.

The visitors scored again, this on a fast break, through True to cut the hosts lead to 44-40.

After going scoreless in the first two minutes and fifteen seconds of the fourth quarter, Gomez ended the Lady Wildcat drought with a pull-up jumper.

A foul by Gomez sent Malone to the line two shots. Malone made the first free throw to cut Madill’s lead to 46-41.

The next Madill possession ended when the referees called a double dribble on Weiberg near the top of the arc. However, Runyan vocally challenged the call to the amusement of the home crowd.

“What’d she do,” he asked. “Double dribble requires two hands. Maybe she turned it over.”

Earlier in the game, similar comments by Runyan led to laughter from the home side of the field house.

Weiberg made a pair of free throws with 1:39 to go in the game to give Madill a 48-41 lead.

After a Lady Bearcat free throw, Chapa made the second of two free throws to keep the Madill lead at seven points; 49-42

On their next possession Pilot Point added another point as Bailey made a free throw to make it 49-43.

Both teams kept up the intensity even as Madill’s advantage continued into games final seconds.

Madill moved into the bonus. An attempted trap by the visitors sent Weiberg to line where she made one shot. This made the final score 50-43. With the win, Madill moved to 3-1 on the season.
