Kingston faced the Lone Grove on January 15, 2021. This game is one that will stick with the Redskins for a while. The 44 to 32 loss should not be easily forgotten. The Redskins still seemed to be missing Braden Matchen who continues to rest that nagging shoulder injury.

The first quarter had stellar defense from both teams. Although only two Redskins managed to score, the score at the buzzer was 4 to 3, Redskins. Jesse Rose had a field goal and a free throw for the old fashion three-pointer. Tucker Rumer was 1 of 2 from the line.

Second quarter saw the scoring pick up as Brady Brister found his stroke. He had a three and a two-point field goal to go along with 6 of 6 from the line — including two from a technical foul. Rose was good for two more field goals and Marshall Ludrick had a field goal. The second quarter was better, but still only a 21 to 17 lead going into the locker room.

Jase Hays struggled all night in foul trouble. He got his first bucket and free throw in the third quarter. Brister and Ludrick each had a field goal. Unfortunately, Hays’ free throw was the only attempt for the team in the quarter. He picked up his fourth foul with 9.6 seconds to go in the quarter. The game was tied, 28 to 28, after three quarters.

In the fourth, the Longhorns quickly took a lead and did not give it up. Coach Weibner took a timeout at the three-minute mark, trailing by eight. Then, Brister had a field goal. Hays had a field goal and fouled out with 1:25 on the clock. Ludrick was 0 for 2 for the only free throw attempts in the quarter. No matter how well you play on the defensive end, you cannot win scoring four points in the first and four points in the fourth. The Longhorns won by 12, 44 to 32.

Box score: Brister ledd all scorers with 15 points and was perfect from the line 6 of 6. Rose had seven points and was 1 of 1 from the line. Hays had five points and was lof 1 from the line. Ludrick finished with four points and 0 of 2 from the line. Rumer was 1 of 2 from the line. As a team the Redskins were nine of 12 for 75%.

Also seeing minutes was Cole Morgan, Drew Capps, Reid Cason and Dakota Weibner.

Speaking of defense, only two Longhorn players scored in double figures. One player had 15 and one player had 11. Only six players scored. So, the Longhorns did very well themselves as only five Redskins scored and only one in double figures.
