Lady Redskins at Broken Bow

The Lady Redskins put the pedal down and cruised thru Broken Bow Thursday night. Coach Chad Rumer stated after the game, “Anytime you ride a bus for 2 ½ hours, get off and win it’s good,” Rumer said. “We seem to be getting a little better each game. We had good scoring tonight out of Press McKnight and Tyla Bohannon, and Kassie Bailey took at least 4 charging fouls. It was a good road win”.

In the first quarter action, Press McKnight out scored her opponents by herself.  She hit for three 3 pointers and a free throw for 10 points. Ryan Herndon and Tyla Bohannon both had field goals and Britt Henderson had a three of her own. Lady Redskins held a 17 to 9 lea.

Next was the second quarter, Kamry Bohannon had a three and her sister Tyla added two field goals and a free throw.  Dana Wagnon was getting to the foul line and was two of four.  The lead was extended to 27 to 14.

During the third quarter, Broken Bow scored 10 but gave up 9. So, the score was a 12-point deficit at the buzzer.  McKnight had another field goal, Emi O’Steen added three, and Tyla Bohannon had a field goal and was two of two from the line.

Rounding into the fourth quarter, McKnight had another three and was 2 of 4 from the line. All other scoring in the quarter was from the line. Tyla Bohannon was 3 of 4, Wagnon was 3 of 6.  Final score was 47 to 36.

Post-game stats: McKnight with 17 points, Tyla Bohannon had 14, Wagnon with 5, O’Steen and Kamry Bohannon with 3, and Herndon had 2. Bailey was 0 of 2 from the line but had the above-mentioned charging fouls taken. This is becoming a calling card for her and just shows the determination she has. She is never the tallest player on the floor but she is the toughest.

The Lady Redskins are off now until the Mid-America Tourney in Ada on Dec. 26.

Redskins v Savages

Brady Brister had his best scoring effort of the young season, but it was not enough to hold off Broken Bow Savages. Because of inexperience, Coach Taylor Weibner will have nights like this with these young Redskins.

In the first quarter, Brady Brister was doing all he could to keep pace with Broken Bow. He had three field goals, a three pointer, and was 1 0f 2 from the line.  He was the only Redskin to score however. The defense was not there either. The score at the end of one was 21 to 10.

Brister continued to score in the second with two more field goals and a three pointer. He was 1 of 2 from the line. He wasn’t completely on his own with Jase Hayes having three and Brycen Ellison adding a field goal. However, the Redskins were not having any luck stopping the Indians. The score at the half was 42 to 23.

Hoping things would swing their way in the third, it was not to be. Kaden Johnson had a three pointer and a field goal and was 1 of 2 from the line. Jase Hays added two free throws.  Meanwhile, the Indians continued their methodical scoring and held the lead at 54 to 31 going into the fourth.

In the fourth, Brister picked up his third three pointer of the game. Jesse Rose had a field goal and a free throw. Jase Hayes had a three and a field goal. Ellison was two for two from the free throw line. Broken Bow wins 65 to 47.

Final stats: Brister had 21, Jase Hayes had 10, Johnson with 6, Ellison with 4 and Rose with 3.

The Redskins are off now until Jan. 7 when they take on the Wampus Cats of Atoka at home.
