Kingston softball splits in Plainview tourney

Following an important softball district triumph over Davis, the Kingston Lady Redskins split four outings inthePlainviewTournament over the weekend.

Sporting a 13-6 record, the Lady Redskins face a similar slate this week with an early district contest against Comanche on the road before taking part in the McLoud Tournament beginning Thursday. Coach Aaron Minor’s squad will haveahomegameforthefirst time in nearly three weeks on Monday against Marietta.

The8-7winoverDaviswas a tight tussle that looked like it might be a Lady Redskin runaway as they scored three runs in the first inning and third inning before tacking on another run in the fourth for a commanding 7-0 advantage.

Alyssa Langford’s double spurred the early uprising and Bailey Reagan drove in all three tallies with a triple in the third frame.

After watching the lead shrinkto7-5,Kingstonplated what proved to be the decisive score in the sixth when Langford tripled and scored on a Kate Ratzlaff sacrifice fly.

Amberly Hallum held off a late Davis charge to pick up the pitching victory in going all seven innings in which she scattered 11 hits. Langford and Khloe Hall posted three hits apiece with Kenadea Elkins tossing in two to pace the offensive attack.

Kingston then opened the tournament with an 11-4 victory overMarlowbutsuffered a 6-4 setback to Plainview in the following contest. The Lady Redskins rebounded for a hard-fought 2-1 win against Walters before being blankedbyClass6AEdmond SantaFe,4-0,intheirtourney finale.

Emily Bridgeman led the charge against Marlow with three hits while also driving in three and scoring three runs in the process. Langford homered in the contest and knocked in three as Reagan also contributed a pair of doubles for Kingston.

Hall tossed the complete game in the pitching circle, yielding four unearned runs on nine hits.

The Lady Redskins erased most of an early 6-0 deficit against Plainview before coming up just short as they made the most of just three hits offensively. Langford had a home run and two runs batted in.

Against Walters, Hall turned in a pitching gem in which she allowed only three hits and struck out 12 to fuel the Kingston victory.

Elkins singled home a run in the third inning to tie that contest before Hallum squeezed home the eventual winning run one frame later after Reagan had doubled to begin the frame.

Kingstonfinishedwithfive hits against Edmond Santa Fe but could not crack the scoreboard in their finale. Elkins, Ayli Minor, Reagan, Ava Bain and Bridgeman each had singles.
