Kingston softball snags Cushing tourney wins

The Lady Redskins will have another challenging weekend ahead when they travel north again to compete intheRogersStateUniversity Festival.

In the Hugo victories, Kingston had little resistance as Dextry Bowerman twirled a no-hitter in the opener and Madi Hammond followed suit in game two with the Lady Redskin offense scoring early and often by cashing in 23 walks.

Kingston opened the Cushing event with the Bishop Kelley win, plating a run in the third frame and three in the fourth to take a commanding 4-0 edge. Destry Davis tallied a pair of hits, including a triple, while Kate Ratzlaff posted two hits as well. Both drove in and scored a run.

That was more than enough support for Gracie Bridgman, who was dialed in the pitching circle while yielding one unearned run on six hits and 10 strikeouts in tossing the complete game.

The Lady Redskins followed with a 13-5 run rule verdict over the Chandler JV, pounding out 16 hits led by three apiece from Audrey Hughes and Kenley Hallum. Ratzlaff, Bowerman and Ava Bain finished with two each.

Their five-game unbeaten run was snapped with a 7-0 shutout at the hands of the Chandler varsity as Davis notched the lone hit.

Bridgman was the toughluck losing hurler in the narrow Ponca City setback despite firing a complete game gem in which she allowed only one hit and fanned 11 batters. Kingston however never could crack the scoreboard getting only three hits, two of which came from Hammond.

Kingston closed the tournament with the 8-0 whitewashing of Sapulpa, spurred by a no-hitter from Bridgman as she also struck out 13 and walked four.

Hammond contributed a solo home run in the offensive charge with Emma Bridgemannotchingadouble and driving in three. Hallum chipped in two hits as well.
