Coach Chad Rumer and his Lady Redskins are District champions after beating the Marietta Lady Indians from Marietta, 55 to 20, on February 23, 202`. This odd schedule is due to weather with record low temperatures and near record snowfall last week. The last game of the season with Madill also fell victim and will not be made up. So, Coach Rumer might have some concerns about a ten-day layoff between the last game of the season and the start of the playoff season.

In the first quarter, the Lady Redskins removed any thoughts of an upset right away. It seemed that everyone was determined to get off to a good start. It always starts with Senior Avri Weeks who as of late had been in another world. She controlled the paint and had three buckets for six points. The often overlooked and not talked about enough is her defensive game, and of course, her rebounding. Also her shot blocking was totally taking the Lady Indians out of the game.

Ryan Herndon is often on the receiving end of long outlet passes from a Weeks rebound or block. She had a great start with two threepoint buckets and a two-point goal. Reagan Davis and Kamry Bohannon both had buckets. After one quarter, the Lady Redskins led 18 to 4.

Second quarter was a steady diet of what the ladies were serving in the first. Lady Redskins had a fourteenpoint output and held the Lady Indians to five. Weeks again had three buckets and was 1 of 3 from the line. Davis had a nice three-pointer and Bohannon had a bucket. Herndon did her work from the free throw line where she was 2 of 3. The half time score was 32 to 9.

The plan from Rumer must have been, ‘give me all you have, and the girls delivered. Each quarter started the same with Weeks hitting buckets inside, (3, and 1 of 2 from the line). If the opponent does not cover from beyond the arc, hit it. Kaya (Quickdraw) Wiebener did just that. She has a quick release on her shot that makes it hard for defenders to get to and this led to a three-pointer. Herndon again had a field goal. Bohannon got to the line where she was 1 of 2. The score after three quarters was 45 to 17 in the Lady Redskins favor.

If the plan is working, then why change it. The starters began each quarter setting the tone on defense, and not turning it over. Herndon was hitting three-pointers and had a two-point field goal. Ethel Stewart had an inside bucket. Not much needed offensively, and never stop the defensive effort regardless of the score. Everyone played including, Lanie French, Emma Waite, Jayda Foster, Chole Cargal, Emily Bellettini and Britt O’Steen. Starting but not scoring was Emi O’Steen who had a really steady game especially handling the ball when full court pressure was applied. Another defensive gem was this game with the final score being 55 to 20.

Box Score: Weeks and Herndon each had 20 points. Davis and Bohannon had five each. Wiebner had three and Stewart had two. From the line 5 of 10 for 50 %.

Note: Missing from the lineup is Kiara Price who is suffering from a hip injury that will require surgery.
