As a Member of Congress, I have the honor of nominating students to our country’s service academies. Attending a U.S. service academy is an invaluable experience that shapes young men and women into our next generation of leaders. Nominations are available for the U.S. Military Academy, U.S. Naval Academy, U.S. Air Force Academy, and U.S. Merchant Marine Academy.

The service academies prepare young people to serve as commissioned officers in the branches of our armed forces. Students at the academies undergo intense academic work, physical training, and character development that prepare them for military service. Deciding to apply for a nomination to a service academy should not be taken lightly. When they graduate, individuals receive a bachelor’s degree and are commissioned as military officers. The honor of attending a service academy comes with an obligation and commitment to serve in the military for a minimum of five years upon graduation.

Service academies recruit the best and brightest. They look for individuals who not only answer the call of duty but are willing to go above and beyond. It’s recommended that you excel academically and are involved in school, church, or community activities. Each applicant for a nomination must meet the following eligibility requirements for admission to an academy:

At least 17 years old, but not have passed the 23rd birthday

U.S. citizen

Unmarried, not pregnant, and without legal obligation to support children or other dependents

Meet the medical, physical, and academic requirements of the academy

Reside within the boundaries of the 2nd Congressional District of Oklahoma

To request a nomination for a service academy from my office, please visit www.Mullin.House.Gov/ServiceAcademy and fill out the Academy Application and the Online Form. There are two ways to apply: send the application via e-mail to Mullin.Academies@mail.house.gov or mail a printed application to my Muskogee Office at 811-A N. York St, Muskogee, OK 74403. All applications must be filled out and returned to my Muskogee office by Friday, November 15, 2019. After applications are submitted, all nomination applicants will have a personal interview and when interviews are complete, we will begin the notification process for applicants.

Receiving a nomination from a congressional office is just the first step in the process of attending a service academy and a nomination does not guarantee admission. If an individual receives a nomination from my office to a service academy, the next step is to receive an appointment from that service academy. After receiving a nomination, the individual will be put into a pool of nominees. From there, the service academies will reach out to offer an appointment, or an offer of admission.

Applying for a nomination and to the academies can be a daunting process, but my team and I are here to help in any way we can. If you have any questions about the application, nomination, or appointment process, please call my Muskogee office at (918) 687-2533 for more information.
