After a strong showing the night before at Madill, fans and Coach Chad Rumer were anxious to see if it all carried over to Jan. 18; it did. The Lady Redskins cruised to a 69 to 24 victory over Wright City.

In the first quarter, the Lady Redskins continued the good shooting they have found lately.

Pressley McKnight, Ryan Herndon, Kassie Bailey, and Britt Henderson all had three pointers.

In fact, Henderson had two. That’s five threes in the quarter.

Add to this Avri Weeks two field goals and Wagnon’s one plus Tyla Bohannon’s two free throws, and you have a 25-point quarter - seven players scoring.

Lest we forget, Coach Rumer always starts with defense. He could feel real good by this effort.

They held Wright City to five points on two field goals. 25 to 5, advantage Lady Redskins.

In the second quarter, McKnight hit another threepointer.

Weeks, who is still playing sparingly, had a field goal and was 2 of 2 from the line. Bohannon had a field goal.

Wagnon was 4 of 4 from the line, and Emi O’Steen was 2 of 2. The Ladies carried a 40 to 17 lead to the locker room.

The third quarter saw Henderson, who has shown confidence in her shooting, with two more threes.

O’Steen added one of her own. That was all the scoring in the third for the Lady Redskins. All the while they held their opponent to a four-point total. The lead now is up to 49 to 17.

Fourth quarter had Rumer deep into his bench. Not before Henderson, McKnight, and O’Steen all could get another three. Wagnon had a field goal.

With the score 58 to 21, the bench emptied to finish the game.

Kamry Bohannon had two field goals, Ethel Stewart and Brittany O’Steen had buckets. The defensive effort did not slack off one bit. The Lady Lumberjacks did not score a field goal in the fourth. They managed three free throws. Coast to coast, the Lady Redskins prevail 69 to 24.

After the game, Coach Rumer was very proud of the defensive effort. Following the loss to Latta in the NYC tournament they have run off five wins in a row. They have allowed, 29, 29, 23, 41 and 24 for an average of 29.2 points per outing.

That is an incredible “points allowed” average. We can compare this team to the 2019 team simply because they had no seniors graduate from that squad. Speaking of defense, Kassie Bailey again had a “charging foul taken.” After a rocky start to the season, they are slowly beginning to look like their old selves.

Final stats: Henderson with 17, followed by McKnight with 9. O’Steen E., Wagnon and Weeks all had 8, followed by Bohannon (T) who had 5. Bohannon (K) with 4 and Bailey and Herndon with 3 points each. Stewart and O’Steen (B) had 2 points each. Also seeing minutes were Lainey French, Alyssa Henry, Raegan Davis and Chloe Cargal.

The Lady Redskins are off until January 21t when they will host the Marietta Lady Indians.
