Kingston blasts Bethel, preps for Heavener

The Kingston Redskins scored on offense, defense and special teams and easily rolled by Bethel, 71-30, in district football action last week.

Still unbeaten in league play, the Redskins make the three-hour road trek to Heavener on Thursday night looking to maintain a stranglehold on the league lead. Heavener is currently tied for second in the district standings and just one game back of Kingston and co-leader Hugo.

“We scored in most every area,” Redskin head coach Brad Hill stated. “We returned a kick for a touchdown, the defense had a pick six on an interception and I think we scored seven times offensively. It was a pretty complete ball game for us and it’s always good when you are able to get young guys in the game, guys that are going to be future of the program. We were fortunately able to get those guys some action in varsity district competition.

Hill’s squad wasted little time in jumping out to a 21-0 first quarter lead before Bethel managed to get on the scoreboard early in the second period.

That margin extended to 65-18 with reserves seeing extensive action throughout the final two periods.

Quarterback Reid Patterson threw for 172 yards and four touchdowns to four different receivers.

Kingston also added 192 yards on the ground with Patterson’s team-leading 76 yards on 11 carries and another score. Parks Ratzlaff picked up 44 yards on nine rushes and also scored once. Cash Walker notched three runs for 37 yards with Hudson Everhardt toting the ball five times for 29 yards and the final rushing touchdown.

Coach Hill and company quickly began preparation for 4-1 Heavener, whose only loss came to league co-leader Hugo.

“Heavener is a good football team,” Hill added. “They’ll be fired up playing at home with a chance to possibly move into a tie for the district lead. They are coming off back-to-back wins and are big and physical. It will be a challenge for us.”
