KHS Softball all business at RSU Festival

On Thursday, August 21, the Lady Redskins traveled to Claremore, Okla. to participate in the Rogers State University Festival. Kingston won in walk off fashion against the Adair Lady Warriors 8-7.

The game was tied 7-7 in the bottom of the ninth when junior Ava Bain singled, scoring one run to win the game. Bain went three for four at the plate, drawing one walk.

Sophomore Audrey Hughes and Bain were a force together in the lineup. Sophomore Kate Ratzlaff andjuniorDextryBowerman each collected multiple hits, with Bowerman and Ratzlaff running the bases, stealing multiple, to lead Kingston to the victory.

Sophomore Gracie Bridgman pitchedgemsandearned the win for the Lady Redskins, striking out eight and walking none.

Friday, August 22, Kingston defeated the Haskell Lady Haymakers 9-1 largely thanks to freshman Keeton Hatley driving in four runs on two hits.

Up next, the Lady Redskins faced the Vinta Lady Hornets, capturing a 10-0 victory. The bottom of the lineupprovedtopackapunch for Kingston with junior Destry Davis pacing the Lady Redskins with three walks.

Freshman Keeton Hatley and sophomore Kenley Hallum showed the depth of the lineup, each batting in multiple runs.

The Lady Redskins, graduating two starters last year, have gained some new faces with freshmen starters Maddi HammondandHatleyand move-in junior Bowerman. They add an extra punch to seasoned starters Bain, Ratzlaff, Hughes, Davis, Hallum and Bridgeman.

Junior Destry Davis reflected on this weekend.

“We went 3-0 and played against a State Tournament team from last year (Adair). That was a big win for us because it proved that we are good enough to play with State contenders, and we belong there,” Davis said. “I am excited to see how the rest of our district play turns out. It would be exciting to host a Regional on our brand new turf field.”
