The Kingston Lady Redskins found themselves in the the consolation bracket March 6 after a run in with the #2 ranked girls from Jones. The Lady Redskinds fell by 12 points, 51-39.

Sometimes you just have to tip your hat and say, “they are a really good team”.

The girls from Jones have had only one stumble all year and that was to the # 1 ranked team in class 3A, Sequoyah Tahlequah.

That was the only blemish on their season.

And after seeing them in person they certainly deserve the ranking. They are tall, very tall. They are fast, they can shot and they can defend.

Coach Chad Rumer and his girls are not afraid of a challenge.

They are used to playing the underdog role. Everything would have to go perfectly for the Lady Redskins. And it did not.

Dana Wagnon picked up her second foul at the 2:38 mark. For the third straight game, Wagnon has found herself in early foul trouble.

Tyla Bohannon replaced her and picked up her first foul 23 seconds later. Bohannon played well and had a bucket and was 2 of 2 from the line. Avri Weeks was up to the task and against a very tall front line she had 2 buckets and was 2 of 2 from the line. Wagnon before going to the bench had scored a bucket. The Lady Redskin back court of Kassie Bailey, Britt Henderson and Pressley McKnight were held scoreless. After one quarter the Lady Redskins trailed by four points, 16 to 12.

In second quarter action both teams were playing stellar defense. For the Lady Redskins, the baskets were hard to come by. Bohannon was putting together a very good half. She had two buckets and a free throw. Weeks had an inside field goal of her own. Bailey and Henderson had buckets. And that was it. Jones increased the lead to 12, and lead 35 to 23 going into the locker room.

By the 5:30 mark of the third quarter Wagnon had her third foul. McKnight got on the board with a nice three point goal. Henderson had a field goal and a free throw. Weeks also had a field goal and a free throw. That was all they could manage. The girls from Jones carried a 9 point lead to the fourth, 43 to 32.

In the final quarter, Weeks had five, Henderson had two. Wagnon fouled out with 1:47 to play. Rumer sent in the bench with 54 seconds remaining. The final score, 51 to 39.

Final stats: Weeks lead the team with 16 points, Bohannon had 9, Henderson with 7, McKnight for 3 and Bailey and Wagnon had 2 each.

Analysis: Here the Lady Redskins find themselves in the consolation bracket. This is not familiar territory for them. One game stands in their way of the state tourney. And as Yogi Berra said, “this is like déjà vu all over again”. Yep, you guessed it . The ladies from Comanche again. Tomorrow night, Saturday, 6:30 @ Chickasha. If you are wondering, check the last two issues of the Madill Record. They will be thinking “the third time is a charm”. The Lady Redskins will be thinking, “we’ve beat them before, we will beat them again”. It is lose and go home. It is win and go to state.
