The Lady Redskins and Lady Wildcats met for second of a double home series between the cross-county rivals on January 17. The previous meeting took place approximately six weeks ago at the KMAC, on Dec. 10, 2019.

At the time of the first meeting, the Lady Redskins were without three starters, Avri Weeks, Kassie Bailey and Danna Wagnon. The Lady Wildcats were ready to play, and the Lady Redskins were not. The result was the loss of the game and the shoe. Referring, of course to the “Traveling Shoe,” which goes to the winner of the game until the next year. Final score 62 to 57, a five point victory for the Lady Wildcats.

This game would be a different game entirely. The defense intensity was good and the scoring was spread out all night. In the first quarter, Bailey hit for three, Wagnon was four of six from the line, Weeks had two field goals, Tyla Bohannon had a field goal and was two of four free throws, Wagnon was four of six from the line and Britt Henderson hit two of two free throws. This amounted to a 17 to 11 lead.

In the second, the stifling press and defense overwhelmed the Lady Wildcats and they could only manage three points. Meanwhile on the other end, Coach Chad Rumer and his girls were putting up another 17 point quarter. Pressley McKnight must have said, “I’ve got this girls.” She had a fine quarter with three three-point goals and a field goal for 11 points on her own. Bailey, Wagnon and Bohannon all had field goals.

In the third quarter, McKight, was adding another three, joined by Henderson who had one of her own. Wagnon got busy and added two inside buckets, and Ryan Herndon had a bucket. Bohannon added a field goal and was 2 of 2 from the line. Weeks was 2 of 2 from the stripe. Bailey was 1 of 2. Seven players scored and the lead had grown to 53 to 31. The Lady Wildcats were scoring 17 of their own but could not cut into the lead.

Fourth quarter action; Henderson was everywhere. She totaled eight points. McKnight hit another field goal followed by Weeks who had one. Wagnon drove under and scored a field goal. However, it was free throws that pushed the total for the quarter to 23 - Raegan Davis, 1 of 2, Lanie French, 2 of 2, Henderson was 3 of 5, Weeks, 2 of 2, Wagnon was 2 of 2. This amounted to a 23 point quarter. The final score was 76 to 41.

Coach Rumer was all smiles after the game. He will not have time to enjoy the result for too too long. Saturday will bring Wright City to the KMAC for a makeup game. Final stats: McKnight lead

Final stats: McKnight lead all scorers with 16, followed by Wagnon who had 14.

Henderson was in hot pursuit with 13.

Also, in double figures was Bohannon and Weeks who tallied 10 each. Bailey had 6 and Herndon and French had 2 each.
