Diego Navarrete is a senior at Madill High School and has attended Madill public schools all twelve years. He is the son of Jose and Caroline Navarrete. Navarrete has three sisters named of Gianna, Siena and Mikayla Navarrete.
Navarrete is involved in football and powerlifting. In previous years, he received second place at Plainview for powerlifting and first place at Ringling. He said his biggest challenge over the years was being a part of the 1,000 club for powerlifting which requires you to achieve a combined 1RM total of 1,000 pounds in the squat, bench press and deadlift. However, his favorite memory is when his team, the Madill Wildcats, beat Kingston in football by one point a couple years back.
Navarrete said his inspiration comesfromdetermination, not being the best.
“FredWarnerhasinspired me the most because he was never the strongest or fastest, but yet he gave it his one hundred percent all the time.”
“Now when it comes to life, my uncle Nery Torres has inspiredmethemostbecause he has been through a lot of stuff so I feel like I can always go to him for advice in almost everything,” he added.
Navarrete said he is thankful for his coaches for making him the young man he is today and is thankful for his parents because he feels they have taught him about therealworldandhavetaken care of him growing up.
After high school, he said he plans to attend Oklahoma State University and become a Civil Engineer where he wants to follow by working for Granite while living in Houston, Texas.
His advice for the younger classmen is to never stop grinding, even when it gets tough.
“Just never give up.”
