Madill Cross Country hosted the Cat Run on Saturday, September 4, 2021, at City Lake. The high school boys got the action started with a 5K (3.1 miles). The boys team placed third overall. Senior Anthony Sanchez captured the bronze medal placing third with a time of 17:44.14. Sophomore Armando Gonzalez placed fourteenth with a time of 19:58.34. Head Coach Cale Eidson said, “Anthony ran well for high school boys for third behind two tough individuals.”

Other runners included: freshman James Valadez (20:23.41); sophomore Benjamin Hernandez (20:54.42); junior Saulo Castro (21:04.30); sophomore Jared Gallegos (21:33.25); freshman Kye Salazar (22:01.21); junior Cesar Moreno (23:33.56); sophomore David Mendez (24:21.75); sophomore Jesus Gonzalez (26:28.91); and sophomore Barrick Idell (30:23.26).

The high school girls ran two miles and placed second overall. Senior Isabel Sanchez won the meet with 13:43.21 time. “Isabel ran a good race,” said Eidson.

Sophomore Korlee Cunningham-Martin placed sixth with a time of 14:48.14. Senior Joslyn Stumblingbear took thirteenth with a 15:20.76 time. The rest of the team times are as follows: freshman Kaia Henry (15:38.04); senior Nathali Ibarra (15:41.34); sophomore Esperanza Hernandez (15:42.00); junior Mercedes Stumblingbear (15:47.54); senior Carol Moreno (15:48.92); freshman Codie Shaw (16:12.28); camila Hernandez (16:24.63); senior Jaslyn Grimaldo (16:28.77); sophomore Yailin Serrano (17:30.84); junior Tarah Wiese (19:49.74); and freshman Liliana Santillan (21:16.64).

The junior high boys placed first overall as a team. Cash Cooper took third place with a 13:43.49 time. Jose Campos (13:58.56) took ninth. Ryder Douglas took eleventh (14:04.03). Fifteenth placed was Flavio Ibarra (14:29.20). Triston Barnes (14:29.77); Jagger Rogers (15:01.67); Cooper McHatton (15:02.20); and Gael Gallegos (17:39.74) were the other junior high runners.

Allyson Webb won (9:15.52) for the junior high girls 1.5 mile run. The girls placed third overall as a team. Third place was Yadira Barbosa (9:15.52). Onelia Stumblingbear (10:57.90) took tenth. Rounding out the team was Hadon Stuckey (13:02.24); Brailea Page (13:57.43); Camila Guevara (14:29.94); Azucell Granados (14:52.94); and Dakota Peters (15:24.22).

“All our teams ran much better as a team in their respective races,” said Eidson. “This week is a big week. We run at East Central University on Thursday, September 9 and will run at the Lake Country Conference meet on Saturday, September 11.”

Madill will host the Lake Country Conference meet at City Lake with a 9AM start time. “This week is important for us down the road because it takes some toughness to get through it and will set us up for the rest of the season,” said Eidson.
