All is golden for young Madill Takedown Club wrestler

Oklahoma City, OK - Bowen Brown took first place in the 8U 56lb bracket at the Southern Plains Regional Championships in the Oklahoma City Convention Center on May 18, 2025. Brown completely wrecked his competition, winning all his matches with a firstperiod pin. Bowen couldn’t hide his excitement about his win.

“It was exciting to win first place at Southern Plains for my very first time,” he said while standing atop his podium. “The tournament was really fun, and I hope I can make it to Fargo one day too!”

For the older age groups, theSouthernPlainsRegional Championships is a qualifying event for a select few champions to move onto the 2025 USMC Junior Nationals. That national event is commonly referred to as “Fargo”, as youth wrestlers fromacrosstheUnitedStates converge upon Fargo, ND, for 10 days in July.

Kelsey Brown, Bowen’s mother said she knows he will go far.

“We’re so proud of Bowen,” she said about his accomplishments. “He works hard and dreams big, and we’re blessed to have coaches who support him in those dreams.”

“We are so thankful to Coach Peter Hammer for bringing Freestyle and Greco to the Madill Takedown Club and ultimately Madill’s wrestling program,” she continued. “He’s shared so much knowledge with these young wrestlers and opened up incredible new opportunities for them.”

Qualifying for Fargo is an epic moment in any youth wrestler’s career, much less one as young as Bowen. Being a “Fargo-Qualifier” as a youth wrestler changes the landscape for that wrestler’s futuretrainingandeducation prospects.

The Madill Takedown Club coaches applaud Brown and his family on this spectacular win.
