A pair of 15-run offensive eruptions spurred a district baseball sweep at Hugo and the Kingston Redskins also dispatched Stonewell in an unbeaten week of action.
It was all Kingston in the 15-3 and 15-1 routs of Hugo that kept the Redskins unbeaten in league play and then notched a 5-1 triumph against Stonewall in their only action at the rain shortened Sulphur Festival.
The Redskins will be back home for their annual tournament starting on Thursday. Kingston meets Lindsay in its opening round matchup.
Kingston capitalized on seven Hugo errors to begin the district outing, erasing an early 3-1 deficit.
Coach Darron Henson’s club pushed across four runs in the second frame, sparking a flurry of 14 consecutive unanswered runs. Brady Greene plated three of those with a two-out bases loaded double to centerfield.
Ewan Weaver doubled in a run and Reid Patterson tripled to plate two more in a six-run third inning explosion that put the contest completely out of reach.
All but one Redskin in the starting lineup had a hit with Weaver, Lander Burkhalter, Hayden Seeney and Jaksyn Martin all notching two hits to pace the 12-hit arsenal. Greene ended with just one hit but drove in four.
That was plenty of offensive support for Blane Henry, who twirled five innings for the victory, yielding three unearned runs on only one hit while striking out six and walking three.
The story was much the same in the second contest as Kingston scored early and often while riding a strong pitching effort from Seeney, who worked all five innings of the run rule and allowed one run on three hits and fanned three.
Burkhalter’s run-scoring triple was the biggest blow in a five run first inning burst and they followed that up with three tallies in the second and another seven in the third frame.
The Redskins made the most of extra bases along with 11 free passes with Greene contributing two doubles to spear the offense. Burkhalter also posted two hits while Weaver, Patterson and Seeney added one each.
It was a much tighter affair against Stonewall, but Kingston made a three-run first inning flurry stand up for the win. Seeney had a two RBI single, which was one of only three Redskin hits in the affair.
Greene doubled and knocked in a pair with Henry chipping in the other.
Burkhalter got the mound start and fired a complete game five-hitter as he struck out seven and walked three.
