Madill’s boys cross country team posted a seventh place team finish with junior Yadira Barbosa taking fifth individually in the girls’ division at the Class 4A State Cross Country Meet on Saturday at Edmond Santa Fe.
The Wildcats were just 18 points behind Bridge Creek, which finished fourth in the tight team standings.
Barbosa improved on her 10th place individual showing a year ago with a strong time of 12 minutes, 11.53 seconds over the 3.2 kilometer course in the girls race.
Senior James Valadez cruised to a 27th place effort on the boys’ side to lead the chargeforMadillwithamark of 17:14.34 on the 5K course.
Triston Barnes contributed a time of 17:34.19 for 41stplace,AlexOrtaendedat 17:39.60 for 50th while Jose Campos checked in 55th by clocking a 17:47.85.
Other Wildcat finishers included Gael Gallegos with a 95th place time of 18:46.31, Ryder Douglas added an 18:59.93 for 106th and Blane Hawthorne rounded out things for Madill in 128th at 19:52.33.
“I was very pleased with Yadira Barbosa placing fifth as an individual,” head coach Cale Eidson said of his standout junior. “She ran what I thought was her best race of theseasonandI’mveryproud of her for that and the work she has put in this year.
