Dora Bowie, 87, passed away peacefully on February 18, 2026. Dora transitioned under gentle hospice care on February 18, 2026, a life defined by service, leadership, and an unwavering commitment to her community and family.
Born on January 9, 1939, in Portland, Ore., Dora spent most of her 87 years as a pillar of strength and a source of wisdom foreveryonewhoknewher.Sheleavesthis world having touched the hearts of many.
Her professional legacy was one of profound compassion. She served as a dedicated nurse and a specialized midwife, as she welcomed numerous lives into this world. She served as a tireless caretaker of the elderly, and she ensured their final years were met with dignity and warmth.
Dora was a fierce advocate for her community as mayor of Canute, Okla., where her leadership helped shape the community she served so dearly. Beyond her public service, Dora was a woman of many talents and deep faith. She was an accomplished cake decorator, a vibrant gardener and played the organ for church on Sundays. Dora was known for her legendary cooking skills, and “no one ever left her table hungry or unsatisfied.”

Dora is survived by children, David Ewing, Laurel Ewing, Terry Bowie, James Bowie, Brady Bowie, Shannon Young, Ryan Bowie, and Robert Bowie; grandchildren, Jason Ewing, Joshua Spitzer, Matthew Kelly, Christopher Kelly, Zachary Young, Devin Young, Hoyt Bowie, and Kimball Bowie; great grandchildren, Maddox Kelly and Emerson Kelly.
Dora’s Celebration of Life Services will be held on Saturday March 28, 2026, at 11:30 a.m. at the Norman Community Church of the Nazarene located at 1801 N Porter Ave., Norman, OK 73071.
