Madill Archery takes second place in Lawton Tournament

Familiar names took the title of top girl and boy in Madill Archery at the Lawton Archery Tournament. Bridger Lott and Logan Rushing receive this week’s honor.

The archery team placed 2nd in the tournament and beat their best score of the year once more receiving a score of 3206 at the tournament. Lott attributes his aim to his country roots.

“I am an outdoor/country kid. I archery hunt for deer and I am also a bow-fisherman,” Lott said. “Being in archery I have seen my overall shooting average increase rapidly because of how many more arrows it allows you to shoot. I killed my first deer with my bow this year,” The accomplishment he said he is most proud of in archery is winning the Annual Bulldog Classic in Atlus, Okla. with a score of 282.

Madill’s own Wyatt Evans tied with Lott, but Bridger had scored more 10s. His goals for the remainder of the season are to place in the top 10 as an individual at state and top five as a team at the state archery meet. He received a score of 277 at the Lawton tournament.

Rushing kept her streak going as top girl in the team scoring 263 this Saturday. She attended the tournament, cheereed for the basketball game, and attended the Sweetheart dance all in one day. She said her coaches always have her back.

“For my coaches, thank you for always having faith in me and making archery a fun enjoyable place to be where I have learned so much,” Rushing said. “Thank you, Coach Brenda, for always keeping me calm and helping me promote the pink archery shirts, thank you Coach Runyan for always making me laugh when I’m stressed before a competition, and thank you Coach McHatton for convincing me to join archery and teaching me everything I know.”

Emily Arnold said she is inspired to continue working on her archery skills to make her coaches proud and to witness the improvement in her scores over meets.Shescoreda255atLawton.

She said she challenges her younger teammates to keep archery on their mind even outside of practice and competition to heighten confidence in the sport.
