MHS Archery team aims at going to state

The Madill Archery team is blazing a trail headed towardthestatetournament. The team showed out on February 4 in McLoud. They finished in 3rd place with a score of 3191, their best score of the year. Logan Rushing is no stranger to aiming for goals. This sophomore’s competitive nature and dedication allowed her to go from not knowing how to hold a bow at the beginning of her freshman year to being the top female shooter of her team by the end of the year. She credits extreme focus for her improvement.“I have had to learn how to block out all distractions when I am shooting,” Rushing said. “At some competitions, there will be multiple teams with two archers to a target and it can get very loud and distracting. I have had to learn to block out all distractions and just focus on me and my target.” She added that the skill has also helped her sharpen her focus in school, as well. She said the team is clearing a path to state.“We have qualified for Tier One State, where our goal is to beat the highest score the Madill Archery team has ever shot, which is a 3208.”

Helping lead this team to their shared goal at state, junior Cash Coble reminded his younger teammates to, “aim small, miss small.” This quote is boldly displayed on their golden team t-shirts. Coble placed in the top ten at the McCloud tournament withascoreof278.Freshman Rylan Arnold scored close behind him with a score of 277. Their next tournament is at Lawton for their last pre-state warm up before the Grand State tournament in Tulsa, Oklahoma on February 23.
