BC: Back to normal

Buncombe Creek saw a busy 4th of July to say the least. There were folks from all over enjoying the beaches, boating, and picnicking around the area.

Where there are large groups of people however, accidents and mayhem can occur. There were a few incidences that drew the attention of our local law enforcement. Lets all try to stay safe.

As the line-up started, the Twin Ponds Golf Cart Regatta waned a bit due to the downpour Friday afternoon on July 2. The few that remained paraded as usual with approximately 30 or so golf carts.

Awards were distributed to the most patriotic as well as the most uniquely decorated. The Grand Marshall for this year’s event was yours truly. What an honor.

The event drew support from the locals as they braved the rains to cheer everyone on as they made their procession through the area. The Mickey Brown Memorial Fishing Derby and turtle races drew a large crowd, as the weather reached warm digits. Free hotdogs and drinks were enjoyed by everyone that attended.

The beaches down at our "Jurassic Park" were full all through the holiday as folks enjoyed the day with their families. On Saturday, July 3, firework displays were seen in Lakewood Manor as well as a spectacular show put on down at the beach. Thanks to all that make this happen every year.

The Buncombe Babes Red Hat group enjoyed their monthly luncheon on Friday, July 2 at Ferras in Sherman, Texas. The ladies are always sure to have a good time.

If you would like to join the ladies for an afternoon luncheon once a month, call 580-564-7102. They will be glad to have you.

The "Open Arms Clothes Closet" will once again be open on Saturday, July 17 from 9 a.m. to noon at the Texoma Southern Baptist Church. You may find something for school while you browse.

On Tuesday, July 20 at 7 p.m., the Buncombe Creek Volunteer Fire Dept. will hold their monthly meeting. All are welcome to attend and volunteers are always needed, so come on by.

A thought to ponder, "Every day may not be good but there is something good in every day." Have a safe week!
