    Lady Redskins barely lose to Broken Bow in tight game

    Tuesday night started a busy week for both the Lady Redskins and Redskins. It began with a home game with Class 4A Broken Bow and ended with three straight games during the Atoka Wampus Cat tournament. On January 19, 2021, they met the ladies from Broken Bow. They were not a good matchup for the home team. They are physical, and fast and the road trip did nothing to slow them down. The tenth ranked class 3A Lady Redskins drop a close one, 55 to 53.

    In the first quarter action, the ball went inside to Avri Weeks who saw the double teams coming. They were not allowing goals but they did send her to the free throw line. And she was productive, going 4 of 6. Kaya Weibner had a nice three-pointer. Kiara Price had two layups and a free throw. Emi O’Steen had a bucket. Coach Chad Rumer found his girls trailing by four after quarter one, 18 to 14.

    The Second quarter was worse with a nine-point effort. These came on two field goals from Weeks, a three-pointer by Kamry Bohannon and a field goal by Price. Meanwhile the Broken Bow girls had stretched the lead out to 10 points, 33 to 23.

    Weeks, in the third quarter, got two more buckets underneath and was fouled. She hit 2 of 2 attempts. But the Lady Redskins could only manage a three-pointer from Raegan Davis and a field goal from O’Steen. The Ladies now trailed by 12 points, 46 to 34.

    The fourth quarter got tighter as the Broken Bow coach got a technical foul and Weeks hit the two free throws and cut the lead to five points. She had two more goals and another 4 of 4 from the line. O’Steen and Weibner almost shot their team to a win. O’Steen had two threes and Weibner had a three and a two-point field goal. With 1:17 on the clock, the Lady Redskins were trailing now by one, 54 to 53. They just could not grab the lead and went down by 2, 55 to 53.

    Box Score: Weeks lead the team with 22 points and was 12 to 14 from the line. Next was O’Steen with 10 points. Hers came on two three-point goals and two field goals. Weibner had eight points with two three-pointers and a two-point field goal. Price was next with seven points on three field goals and a free throw. From the line, the team totals were 13 of 17 for 76%.
