The Lady Redskins fought Latta on January 22, 2021. This was one of those games that got worse the further it went. The Latta girls defeated the Lady Redskins 59 to 36.
If the eye test means anything this looked bad from the tip off. Latta girls are very tall, three players six feet and over. They were athletic, they could run, they knew how to defend in the post, and if that wasn’t enough, they could shoot. The tallest of the three was going out to the arc and hitting three pointers. And their guards were very good as well. They have a solid bench, and they are well coached. The defense was set on stopping Avri Weeks in the post and that was what they did. When the ball came back out to our guards they quickly covered them as well. The first quarter went like this. Weeks was unable to get anything inside so she had a couple of medium range jumpers that connected. She was unable to get to the free throw line. Emi O’Steen had a field goal. The score after one quarter was 15 to six.The second quarter was better offensively. Weeks had three buckets and was 2 of 2 from the line. She had help this time. O’Steen had a three and Kaya Weibner came in and had a three and a two-point field goal, making it a 16-point quarter. However, they still trailed going into the locker room, 39 to 22.
In the third, the scoring did not come. Weeks had a field goal and was 0 of 2 from the line. Kamrey Bohannon had a field goal. Weibner was 2 of 2 from the line. Ladies now trailing 28 to 50.
The fourth quarter was over for the starters pretty quickly. Before she left, Weeks was 1 of 2 from the line. Emily Bellettini had a field goal and was 0 for 2 from the line. Emma Waite and Lanie French had buckets and Jayda Foster was 0 of 2 from the line. Final score was, 59 to 36.
